Cathy Domke Associate Superintendent
Meet Our New Associate Superintendent for the BC Conference!!
We are so please to announce that Cathy Domke has joined the Office of Education team as the new
Associate Superintendent. Cathy brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the office and we are
very excited that she has joined us. Please welcome her by sending her a short email at cdomke@bcadventist.ca. Here is a short bio of our new associate.
Cathy Domke has been an educator within the BC Conference for 31 years, her entire teaching career.
Cathy lived in Ontario for the first 15 years of her life, attending Crawford Adventist Academy (TJA) for
grades 1-10. Grades 11 and 12, along with her college years, were at Burman University (then CUC).
From there, Cathy began her teaching career with a move to BC and has made the Pacific West Coast her home ever since.
Lakeview Christian School in Victoria was Cathy’s first school and she taught there for three years before taking a year off to move to Andrews University to work on her master’s degree program. When Cathy returned to BC the following year, she settled into a new position at Deer Lake School, teaching
elementary grades and being the ELL/Special Education teacher. Seven years quickly flew by and
another change came. Having married and now with two young children, Cathy took three years off
teaching to spend time with her girls and operate a home daycare.
In 1999, Cathy returned to teaching and began a 21-year stretch at Fraser Valley Adventist Academy.
During her years there, she spent 15 years in elementary and middle school classrooms and the last six
years as principal.
Cathy is married to Berton Domke and has two daughters, Sara and Laura. Her husband and daughters
are all graduates of FVAA. Sara is a teacher for West Coast Adventist School and Laura is a dental
assistant, both living in Ontario with their husbands. This spring, Cathy gained a new title of “Nana” as
her first grandchild was born to Sara and her husband, Jacob Morrison. Though Cathy has not yet been
able to meet little Ria due to travel concerns with COVID, she enjoys receiving daily photos and videos of
her granddaughter and dreams of soon being able to hold Ria and have lots of gramma time together.
Happy Sabbath from the British Columbia Conference!
VICTORIA SDA CHURCH Celebrating Baptisms
The unique Cadboro Gyro Park in Saanich, has a large waterfront that attracts many visitors. Sunday July 26th was a beautiful sunny day, and just the spot for a baptism or two. A group of friends gathered to support and watch Christopher Tyson and Marni MacFayden take that next step in showing their love for Jesus, in following Him through waters of baptism.
It was a delight for Pastor Marian Kossovan to officiate at this event. It was also his first time to baptize in the ocean.
We ask God's blessings to be with Christopher and Marni, as they walk with the Lord looking and watching for the blessed Hope. We wish them all the best as they move to Vernon and continue their spiritual journey together. They will be missed by the Victoria Church family.

PENTICTON SDA CHURCH Something to Celebrate
Alice (Eliuk) Chaikowsky was born at Angle Lake, Alberta, on July 10, 1920, the first of 11 children, and celebrated the 100th anniversary of this event in Penticton, BC, with her youngest brother Eugene and his wife Ruby.
One remaining brother, Walter, could not attend because of the COVID travel restrictions, while grandchildren and great grandchildren in the United States were kept away by the closed borders. However, with ZOOM technology, they were still able to see and talk to each other.
As Alice is now living in a senior’s home, the limit for gatherings is 10. Besides Alice, these included Pastor and Debbie Wellman, Roy and Louise Williams who operated the ZOOM program, Eugene and Ruby, and two other relatives. A delightful surprise was when Alice’s physician dropped in with flowers to congratulate his oldest patient and socialize with the other attendees.
Besides her faith in God, Alice credits her longevity to persistence and hard work. Her husband Paul passed away in 2009, and her only son Walter in 2010. After these losses, she moved to Penticton to be close to Eugene.
Among the blessings God has given her, Alice has four grandchildren and five great grandchildren, with another expected soon.

We want our church to come back stronger and more unified from this experience. Normally we talk about how digital technologies are a powerful means to scale up traditional ministry and evangelism, but COVID-19 has pushed the need for digital to be the priority. The NAD BIG DATA + Social Media Services has created resources we think you will find useful to help migrate your worship service and help you build an online community for your church.
InFocusis an ongoing collection of stories of our God alive and working in real people’s lives today. In a world filled with doubt and uncertainty, may these inspirational shorts bring you hope and encouragement one story at a time.
