BC CONFERENCE OFFICE NEWS
A Big Welcome to Jorge Cruz

W
e welcome Jorge Cruz to the British Columbia Conference office as the new IT (Information Technology) Coordinator.

Jorge was born in Mexico as a third-generation Adventist, and studied at Montemorelos University where he earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science Engineering. While at university he met the love of his life, Maria Elena, whom he married after graduation in 2002 .

After moving to British Columbia that same year, Jorge took IT courses at British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) while working in construction. Before coming to the BC Conference office, Jorge worked at the Chilliwack School District 33 for eight years as a Computer Services Technician.

God blessed Jorge and Maria Elena with two daughters, Valeishka and Izabella. Jorge enjoys church activities as a member of the Chilliwack SDA Church. He also enjoys sports and family activities like hiking, making music together, singing, and playing instruments.

Jorge’s main goal is reaching out to others through technology for Jesus Christ.
BURNABY FIL-CAN SDA CHURCH
Celebrating Baptisms

Burnaby Filipino-Canadian Seventh-Day Adventist Church Family welcomed the 4 new members (Oscar Antonio, Jan Reden Almuete, Stephanie Dan, Charlene Dela Pena) who decided to join the church through baptism and 2 profession of faith (Blessy & Beryl Escolano) on May 25, 2019. This moving baptismal ceremony took place in Vancouver Filipino Church in an intimate setting witnessed by the closest friends, family members and supportive church members who prepared the typical solemn program that touched everyone’s heart. These new members, after a thorough bible study of Pastor Levi Estores, Oscar Piloneo and Theody Malabanan have chosen to step on faith and did not hesitate to publicly commit their life to the One who was hung on a cross for all of us.

It is believed that these 6 new members who have just accepted Jesus is just a result of God’s work in this church – who is known for its GLAD values (Generous, Loving, Active, Dedicated) as well as welcoming, accepting, authentic, hospitable and caring spirit. This church that have achieved a significant growth since it was organized as a church in 2013 believes that as a human institution headed by Christ, everyone has to live with Christ and this friendship with Him will be reflected in our friendship with others especially to those Non-Adventists who come to church. Heavenly goal is an inspiration from the Church Pastors, leaders and members to respond to do the work in the ministry where God is calling them.

We, as a church, are His ambassadors and He is making an appeal to all of us to continue to be His co-workers in this serious responsibility while we await the day when every tribe, language, nation and people will all be drawn to God to worship Him as one family.

KELOWNA CAMP MEETING
43rd Annual Mini Camp Meeting

Kelowna held its 43rd annual minicamp meeting at the Okanagan Christian School Gymnasium on May 10thand 11th. This year’s focus was on youth and young adults.  The place was jam packed, nearly bursting at the seams for this popular event. The main speaker was Pastor Anil Kanda of California. President Torres, Vice President Ern Brake and Pastoral Director Tom Glatts from conference, were also in attendance, and they gave inspirational messages as well during camp. Friday night started out with a meet and greet supper with the Okanagan Christian School students, and speaker Anil Kanda.

Ern Brake gave the lesson study Sabbath morning; while the kids attended their Sabbath school programs.  The children also had their own church service led by Pastor Neil Paralto, and it was a real hit with the thirty some children in attendance.

Pastor Anil Kanda was a dynamic speaker, who took on the difficult topic of the Birds, the Bees and the Bible.  He said that it was better to hear about the topic from the church rather than from such sources as the internet and other media.  One way or another the youth would learn about it, and they need a positive source to guide their decision making about relationships.  Pastor Anil referred to the Song of Solomon for his inspiration, along with new scientific discoveries about biochemical attraction.

The Fountainview Academy blessed the crowd with their outstanding musical abilities in the afternoon, and the end of the meeting was topped off with an altar call, with all the pastors, elders and conference leaders up front.  The attendees were then invited to come up to pray and invite the Holy Spirit into their lives to lead and direct them in a stronger relationship with Christ.   The mini-camp meeting of 2019 was a real blessing, with some powerful messages to take home and incorporate into our lives.

WESTMINSTER SDA CHURCH
ADRA Fundraising Concert

A
t a time when the world seems to be going in so many different directions, Lower Mainland SDA Church Choirs and Musicians came together in support of the humanitarian arm of our denomination, ADRA.

On May 25th, Westminster Church welcomed Choirs from Abundant Life, New Life, Richmond, Burnaby Fil Can, and Vancouver Filipino Churches along with several local musicians, to bless and praise the Lord.  The ADRA fundraising concert has been a highlight in the Westminster church for 20 years and for the last 6 years we have been blessed to have choirs participate in a Mass choir component.

In all, 96 voices participated in the crowning touch of the evening - a beautiful Mass Choir rendition of Tom Fettke's “The Majesty and Glory of Your Name”.

We trust ADRA and those who have been struck by disaster or are in need of assistance with day to day living, will benefit greatly from the $2500 + collected both at the concert and on Sabbath, from those who were unable to attend.
