UPDATES from the BC Conference Board of Directors
February 2020

The BC Conference Board of Directors (BOD) is responsible for overseeing the mission of the Seventh-day Adventist church in British Columbia and Yukon. Its mission is to reach the 5.1 million people with the Christ-Centered message of hope and wholeness. This is accomplished through our churches, schools, conference departments and ministries.
The BOD met February 21-23, at Camp Hope for a visioning weekend where it discussed the top four priorities of the BC Conference: Spirituality, Mission, Equipping and Youth. The BOD also received reports from or regarding the ABC Christian Book Store, Auditing Department, Camp Hope, Communications, Education, Evangelism, Ministerial, Planned Giving, President, REACH, Secretariat, Treasury, and the Youth Department.
Here are some other updates:

  1. During 2019, we welcomed 300 more people to our church family through baptism, and profession of faith. This is an increase of 40% over the previous year. Praise the Lord!
Pastoral Changes
  1. After 24 years of ministry in the Vancouver Chinese Church, Johnny Yip will be retiring. We will miss his happy smile, and wish him God’s blessings as he and his wife, Bianca, transition into the next phase of their lives.
1.     Michael Dauncey, Assistant Pastor at Church in the Valley for 10 years, accepted a call to It Is Written to be the Creative Director for Media Productions. He takes up his new duties April 1. We will miss Dauncey and his wife, Marcella, as they start a new ministry in Ontario.
  1. Brad Dennis, who has been working in Bella Coola as a Bible Worker/Youth Worker, is the bi-vocational pastor/Indigenous Ministries Worker for the Bella Coola Church. He took on this new roll December 1, 2019.
  2. Royce Odiyar returned from Andrews University Seminary to be the pastor of the Salmon Arm/Silver Creek/Revelstoke SDA Church District. He started February 1.

  5. Song Ven Tay (Zephaniah), who will be graduating from the Andrews University Seminary is scheduled to pastor the Vancouver Chinese Church, starting July 1.

Ministry (REACH) Offering Formula
The BOD voted to adopt a change in the Ministry (REACH) Offering Formula as follows: 70% of the REACH Offering will be allocated to Education; 10% to Camp Hope; 10% to Camp Meeting; and 10% to Summer Camp. Also, when offerings are given toward the Conference Capital Fund Campaign, 50% will be allocated to Church/School Building Projects; 30% to Camp Hope Capital Projects; and 30% toward Youth Camp Capital Projects.
New BC Conference Office Building Update
The architectural plans for the New BC Conference Office Building have been submitted to the City of Abbotsford. We await for the City to respond with approval or recommended changes.
Tithe and Offering
Our connection to God provides the spiritual fuel that keeps the Adventist movement moving. Tithes and offerings constitute the financial fuel. While we know the two are related, we can more easily measure the financial fuel. Here is a quick summary of the tithes and offerings: Our 2019 tithe decreased by 2.2% (mainly due to a large windfall in 2018). Even still, there has been an average increase of 5% over the last 2 years. Our offerings increased by 8%. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!

Evangelism in Burns Lake

Burns Lake church recently held a prophecy series of meetings with Pastor Justis St. Hilaire. As a result, ten new individuals are now worshipping with the Burns Lake fellowship. There will be others joining the group in the near future as not all attendees were ready to make an immediate decision. Please pray for our little group that is growing here in Burns Lake as we continue to reach out to our community and neighbors with the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Vacation Bible School Training 2020

Theme: HEROES (Kids from the Bible)
March 14, 2020

Get ready for summer fun at Heroes Vacation Bible School!

Kids love heroes and this summer, instead of talking about superheroes from the comics or movies, this new VBS from the Seventh-day Adventist Church will teach them about heroes from the Bible. Miriam, Samuel and Rhoda were all kids who did little things that made a big difference.

Each day we will discuss different characteristics of real heroes. Kids will see that Jesus is with us and will help us be heroes by doing little things that make a big difference. They will learn to be brave for Jesus, devoted to Jesus, caring for others, bold in sharing, and generous with others.

Your kids will love the fun and interactive learning experience at Heroes Vacation Bible School.

SO – do you want help in getting ready for your VBS?  Come and get trained, find out about all sorts of FREE resources and help in getting your VBS going!!
