Happy Fall!

Today is the first day of fall, a season with bright colors, crisp air, and long nights. In the church calendar, fall marks the end of Ordinary Time, the long stretch of 29 Sundays between Pentecost and Advent. It seems rather fitting that fall is our guide through the end of Ordinary Time. The bright and beautiful leaves falling to the ground charge us to both appreciate the beauty of the ordinary, and to let go of its comforts. For only then can we prepare for a birth that is anything but ordinary. Blessings, Pastor Katheryn

All Church Retreat Survey

Mark your calendars! Our All Church Retreat will be Oct. 22-23 at Redwood Glen Conference Center. To accommodate busy schedules, control costs, and to meet our guaranteed 25 overnight participants, we are having a one night retreat this year. It will begin Saturday morning with breakfast, and end with Sunday morning worship. Cost for the 4 meals, lodging with private baths, linens provided and beds made, is just $129/person double and $140/person single. We hope most will attend both days and overnight. Daytrippers pay $12 each plus meals. $10 Breakfast, $12 Lunch and $14 Dinner. For questions ask George Bunch or Ellen Bauerle.

To sign up for the retreat, please complete our attendance survey here.

Memorial Service

Carolee Todd, a beloved member of our church community, passed away peacefully in her home on August 8th, a month after her 100th birthday. Her memorial service will be at Trinity on Oct. 1 at 1 PM in our sanctuary. Read her obituary here.

Community Spotlights:

Support for our Ukrainian Family

Anastassia Sebeldina is a chemist here in Santa Cruz, who immigrated with her family from Ukraine. Marta Narus first told us about Anastassia and her family and shared their story several weeks ago during worship, and since then, some of Anastassia's family have been staying with Karen Wichelmann. Adjusting to life in a foreign place is difficult, so to help Anastassia, Marta's daughter Caroline has set up a gofundme to raise money for her car insurance. To learn more, click here.
A Faith Community Shelter Success Story!

Many of us have met and adore Al, the monitor of the Faith Community Shelter for the last 12 years. Al will be moving into permanent housing on October 5. It is an unfurnished studio apartment, so we are looking for a twin bed, a microwave, a small amount of silverware, a dresser, and a large dorm size refrigerator. If you can provide any of these, please let Jana in the church office know. Jana will arrange for a pickup for the furniture.
Shared Adventures Halloween Dance

On Saturday, Oct. 29 from 5 PM - 7 PM, Shared Adventures will be hosting a Halloween Dance in the Fellowship Hall for people with disabilities (as they have done for several years). Shared Adventures has extended an invitation for Trinity folks to join this year - they plan to set up/decorate from 3:30-5:00, have crafts for the outdoor area when participants arrive and some snacks during the dance, and then clean up after. They are looking for folks to make treat bags to send home with the participants as well. We would love for you to join/help in any or all of these areas. Reach out to Pastor Katheryn for more information.

Visit our Library!

In October, the library will feature books, memorabilia, and events from four local literary lights; Laurie King, Nancy Lynn Jarvis, and Trinity’s own Ed and Sally Sams. Noted local mystery author and editor of “Santa Cruz Noir” Nancy Jarvis will speak on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 11:45 AM in the Fireside Room on the creative process she used in developing her book, The Widow’s Walk League, a Regan McHenry Real Estate Mystery. Nancy is also the author of the Private Eye Pat (PIP) mystery series. All of Nancy’s books take place in Santa Cruz County!
