Summer Solstice

This past Tuesday, June 21, was the summer solstice. The summer solstice marks the longest day of the year, when the Sun is at its highest position in the sky. While the summer solstice is not celebrated in the Christian tradition, it is a significant time of the year for many cultures, celebrated with festivals and other rituals. In honor of the summer solstice, the day with the most light and the shortest night, here is a poem by Carl Sandburg, "Summer Stars."

Bend low again, night of summer stars.
So near you are, sky of summer stars,
So near, a long-arm man can pick off stars,
Pick off what he wants in the sky bowl,
So near you are, summer stars,
So near, strumming, strumming,
              So lazy and hum-strumming.

Blessings, Pastor Katheryn

  • June 26, Coffee hour with Korean Central Presbyterian
  • June 27, Book club

Joint Coffee Hour

According to the PBS Newshour, anti-Asian hate crimes rose an average of 224% across 21 major cities in 2021. In solidarity, support, and love for our fellow siblings in Christ, our Session has invited the Korean Central Presbyterian Church to a coffee hour in their honor on June 26. We know Korean Central Presbyterian as the church that shares our sanctuary as their place of worship. Perhaps you remember the delicious food they brought when their church joined us for fellowship last time. Now directly after our 10:30 AM church service this upcoming Sunday, June 26, we will show our support for them and their mission. Nicki Kerns with help from Se Jin Oh is preparing a hymn of welcome, teaching the choir to sing "How Great Thou Art" in Korean. This event will be the first sit-down get-together that Trinity has had since Covid. If anyone would like to help, please contact Ed Sams at Edwin.Sams@sjsu.edu. We look forward to seeing you there!

Book Club

Please plan to come to Joanne’s house on June 27 at 7 PM to talk about “Bewilderment” with Kathy Willott leading the discussion.

Visit our Library!

The library has had many upgrades including staff picks, french press coffee, regular hours and art displays. It is now time to refine the actual collection. Larry the Librarian asks that any who are interested send him a list of up to five of their favorite books. He will cross reference these into a top 20 list for the church. This will help us focus on future acquisitions. Please email them to Larry at trinitylibrarian3@gmail.com
