View this email in your browser

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

WEEKLY REFLECTION
Beloved in Christ,

When you think of a king, maybe you think of tyrannical, violent rulers, or maybe you think of upright and virtuous rulers. For most of us, the term king musters up images of golden thrones and crowns and royal vesture. In Mark's passion narrative, Jesus is referred to as "king of the Jews" six times. And the title is almost always used mockingly. Those who use the phrase use it insultingly, and Jesus seems to be the butt of a vicious and cruel joke as he makes his way to the cross.

If Jesus is indeed a king, he certainly is not the kind of king we normally think of. He allows the insults of others to fall on him; he accepts the violence of political and religious oppressors though he is innocent; he puts himself out entirely for the sake of others. And, unlike the rulers of earthly kingdoms, he gives up luxury and comfort for a throne made of wood--a throne upon which he will be crucified for the sins of the world.

This Palm Sunday, the King of the Jews is worthy of our reflection as we are challenged to think anew about power and our relationship with it. Our king reigns not with force and worldly political clout, but with a love so deep he is willing to give his body to destruction. Such a sacrificial act by a king is a demonstration of what leadership in God's Kingdom looks like. And not only is it an example for his followers, it is the sacrifice that makes us whole, reconciled with our heavenly Father.

When the reality of this love takes hold of you, you become more and more willing to follow his lead and to pursue a power that looks like his. For,

though he was in the form of God,
he did not regard equality with God
as something to be exploited,

but emptied himself,
taking the form of a slave,
being born in human likeness.

And being found in human form,
he humbled himself
and became obedient to the point of death--
even death on a cross.

Let us enter Holy Week, asking Jesus how to make us his royal servants.

In His Name,
Fr. Cameron+

MAGNIFY THE LIVING LORD - VOLUME 8

"Witnessing for the Lord can be as simple as relaying to someone who is experiencing a problem how God helped you with a problem of your own.  Even if you fumble with the words, by sharing that incident God will be able to use your witness to encourage that person to come to Him.  It is up to you to ask God to provide you with such opportunities." (Paraphrased from Forward Day by Day)
