O God, who for our redemption gave your only-begotten Son to the death of the cross, and by his glorious resurrection delivered us from the power of our enemy: Grant us so to die daily to sin, that we may evermore live with him in the joy of his resurrection; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

WEEKLY REFLECTION
Dearly Beloved in Christ,

Mary of Magdala wept uncontrollably at the empty tomb on the first day of the week, believing her Lord's dead body had been stolen.

One word changed her deep mourning into unrestrained joy. It was her name on the lips of her savior. And from then on the empty tomb took on a completely different meaning, not just for her, but for the entire cosmos.

On Good Friday it seemed that hope died. At the empty tomb hope could never again die.

On Good Friday fear won the day. At the empty tomb there is no longer anything to fear.

On Good Friday it seemed that Jesus’ life had flown out from him. At the empty tomb Jesus, having passed through death, is alive – and will never die.

On Good Friday it seemed that we would remain dead in our sins. At the empty tomb our sins have died with Christ and we are, through baptism, eternally alive in him.

On Good Friday it seemed that death had conquered. At the empty tomb death has been conquered – forever.

On Good Friday this world’s ruler and our enemy, the Satan, seemed to have won. At the empty tomb Jesus is the Victor and fully revealed as the world’s true King.

On Good Friday it seemed that all had come to an end. At the empty tomb it is just the beginning!

The Lord has been calling you by name since he knit you together in your mother's womb. Your name is still on his lips. Let him change your world all over again. For Christ is Risen! The Lord is Risen Indeed! Alleluia!

Rejoicing with you in all that the empty tomb means in our lives,
Rev'd Sarah+

PARISH NEWS & EVENTS
FROM THE VESTRY
Rev. Sarah announced her retirement to the Vestry at our February meeting and to the congregation the following Sunday.  After expressing our shock and surprise, as did the rest of you when you learned the news, we learned that our next step was to meet with the Canon of the Ordinary, The Reverend Canon Tim Nunez, who would explain the church’s process of finding a new Rector.

We met with Father Tim on February 27th.  He went over the process of forming a Search Committee and creating a Parish Profile and he gave us a couple of options that would allow us to keep Father Cameron in a temporary capacity while we completed the search process. We told him we would like to keep Father Cameron as the permanent Rector. It is very unusual for that to occur so he asked us if we would follow a discernment process both for the parish and for Father Cameron. At his suggestion we met with Father Cameron to discuss the vision God had given him for the future of the parish.

We polled the congregation, and many of you wrote letters to us expressing your support for Father Cameron, and there was a strong feeling that God had placed him with us for just this purpose. So, after our meeting with Father Cameron we had a unanimous vote to proceed. I wrote, on behalf of the Vestry, to the Bishop and Father Tim the next day with our decision and the steps we had taken to get there and the Bishop approved it THE SAME DAY!

All of the papers have now been signed and consequently Father Cameron MacMillan will officially become Rector of the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Maitland on May 1, 2018.

Rev. Sarah will be sorely missed but the Vestry is excited to begin this new chapter in the life of Good Shepherd with Father Cameron’s leadership.

Susie Pelham, Senior Warden, on behalf of the Vestry.

MAGNIFY THE LIVING LORD - VOLUME 8

"Witnessing for the Lord can be as simple as relaying to someone who is experiencing a problem how God helped you with a problem of your own.  Even if you fumble with the words, by sharing that incident God will be able to use your witness to encourage that person to come to Him.  It is up to you to ask God to provide you with such opportunities." (Paraphrased from Forward Day by Day)

Writing for Magnify the Living Lord – Vol. 8 may be such an opportunity for you. Previous volumes can be found online HERE
