A New Chapter in Open Hands History

Fundatia Open Hands Romania

Dear Supporters,

I am pleased to break the news that after working on becoming a registered NGO (Non-governmental Organisation) in Romania for the best part of a year, we now officially have the status of Fundatia Open Hands in Romania!

Our Romanian office is now open and our first two workers, Olga and Ionut have been employed! Having a charitable status in Romania allows us to grow stronger links with local authorities as it puts us in a stronger position to advocate, particularly as our vision is to reach out to children in state orphanages. However, for now we are thrilled to extend our Family Support Program and include children and parents who have been waiting for support in the rural villages near Suceava.

To celebrate this wonderful occasion Steve and I have designed a new website which we hope you will enjoy!

              Great news about the Playgroup!

We want our children to know: 'You are wonderfully made, very precious and we are happy that you are here!'

Until recently the playgroup took place at a rented Open Hands 3rd floor apartment block. Although the apartment did not offer any outdoor play opportunities for the children it was spacious and clean. It also offered a home to Bea, our mum who runs the playgroup and her two small children. However, in June the landlady decided to sell the apartment, giving us very short notice to re-locate.

Thanks to a generous donation made by Europlacer, a UK company,  we were able to buy a small house for our playgroup. The house has wonderful potential. There are fruit trees and vegetable pads in the garden and even a place to keep animals. Here the children will have the opportunity to play safely and explore the outside world as well! A perfect place to teach the children about growing food and keeping animals. We are also planning to build a small playground in the garden for the children to enjoy.

The house will not only host the playgroup but also offer a home to Bea and her own children.

A BIG thank you to everyone who came forward to support the playgroup on a monthly basis, we would not be able to sustain this project without your continuous support!

If you would like to help sponsor this project, please get in touch. For more information about the playgroup click here.

We are very grateful for all the interest and support you have shown in Open Hands work. Thank you also for being part of this new chapter and helping us to bring love and hope to children who would otherwise be forgotten.

With love,
Rebekka & the rest of the Open Hands team!

â€œYou are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven".
