Abbey San Encino Fundraiser Tour

Sunday, April 21st
10AM - 5:30PM (tours every 45 minutes)
6211 Arroyo Glen Street
Los Angeles, CA 90042

The Highland Park Heritage Trust is hosting a fundraiser tour of the Abbey San Encino - one of the Arroyo Seco's treasured landmarks. The Abbey San Encino, which means Abbey Saint Live Oak, is more than a residence. It is a highly unique structure that is as much a monument to its builder and the Arroyo Movement as it is a home. A revered monument in the Arroyo Seco region of Northeast Los Angeles, the Abbey is the creation of Clyde Browne, a printer, who, like many others, came to California at the turn of the 20th century by way of the Middle West. The Abbey was old before it was ever finished for it was built to appear time worn and venerable. The romance of Old California combines with European medievalism in the layout of the rooms around a grapevine draped atrium. The property is still owned and occupied by descendants of Clyde Browne.
