With over 300 committed community members, last weekend's Highland Park community cleanup was a huge success!
Safe Moves, a non-profit focused on children's traffic safety, presented Councilmember Huizar with the Golden Bike Award for "dedication and commitment to bicycle safety education for children" on Thursday at Burbank Middle School.
800 senior citizens from across Council District 14 had a blast on Tuesday at Councilmember Huizar's 7th Annual Senior Snowball at the Bonaventure in Downtown Los Angeles.

4th Annual Lummis Day Film Night

4th Annual Lummis Day Film Night Presents "Detained in the Desert" and "Sacred Journey," Two Films About Dramatic Life Passages.“Detained in the Desert” and “Sacred Journey,” two very different inspirational films by Northeast L.A. filmmakers, both dramatically depicting passages through adversity, will be presented at this year’s Lummis Day Film Night beginning 7pm on Saturday, February 22 at the Church on York performance space, 4904 York Boulevard in Highland Park. Filmmakers of both movies will present their films and will answer questions from the audience.
Tickets for the event are $15 with all proceeds supporting this year's annual Lummis Day Festival. Groups of 10 tickets or more can be purchased for $10 each. Order tickets online or, for more information, call (818) 429-8755.

Metro Art will be hosting a series of free workshops to inform artists about a wide variety of upcoming opportunities and how to apply for them. The informational workshops are for artists only and will be held in February and March at locations throughout LA County; each workshop will cover the same information.

Eagle Rock Elementary Education Foundation is proud to sponsor the first Annual 5K fun run to support physical fitness for the students of Eagle Rock Elementary and the community. The 3.1 mile course starts and ends outside of Eagle Rock Elementary and goes through beautiful Occidental Campus. All participants receive a draw-string backpack, finisher's gift, and other goodies! A valid PTA card gets $5 off. Students at ERE run free with a paid adult entry. This is a NON-TIMED EVENT. Walkers and runners welcome!

Deadline to Sign Up for Covered California

For 2014, the deadline for open enrollment for the health insurance plans offered through Covered California is March 31, 2014. Enrollment is not finalized until your premium payment has been received by your health insurance company. If you are found eligible for Medi-Cal, you can enroll year-round. The next open enrollment for health insurance plans offered through Covered California will be during the fall of 2014, for coverage beginning in 2015.

Eat Umami Burger, Help Reinvigorate Rec Centers and At-risk Youth Programs

From January 1 to March 31, Umami Burger in the Downtown Arts District will contribute $1 dollar of each beer/wine purchased towards the Eagle Rock Yacht Club (ERYC) and their efforts.
The ERYC is a non-profit committed to helping create positive growth for at-risk youth and young adults through the game of dodgeball, workshops and mentorships. The organization works with local parks and their staff here in Northeast LA
to help reinvigorate recreation centers while encouraging young, socially minded peers to join their efforts in creating strong communities around the United States. For more information, visit theyachtclub.org
Northeast Trees 2014 Earth Day Festival

Join North East Trees for its Second Annual Earth Day Fest. This fundraiser features about 35 local artists selling their works, live music, exhibits and information about the work of local environmental organizations, information on volunteer opportunities, activities for kids, craft beer and fresh lemonade, prize drawings and more. Each exhibitor donates a portion of sales to North East Trees, which has been planting an urban forest, designing and building parks, building and enhancing trails, and training and hiring at-risk youth for over 20 years.
