Avenue 50 & York Boulevard Park Planning Workshop

Thursday, August 8th
7:00PM
Burbank Middle School Multipurpose Room
6460 N. Figueroa Street
Los Angeles, CA 90042

Councilmember Huizar's Office invites you to join your neighbors at the FIRST planning workshop for the future park at the corner of Avenue 50 and York Boulevard in Highland Park. After years of sitting vacant, the empty lot at the corner of Avenue 50 and York Boulevard will soon be a park. In the spring of 2012, the city received Proposition 84 money from the state to purchase the vacant lot and turn it into a park. Earlier this year, the city successfully closed escrow on the lot, making it officially city property.

This workshop will be the first in a series of workshops where residents, business owners, and other invested individuals can help design the park. Before the design session kicks off, the Department of Recreation & Parks will give an overview of the workshop process and how the designing will take place.

For more information or to RSVP, please contact Councilmember Huizar's Northeast Office at (323) 254-5295 or email Nate Hayward at nate.hayward@lacity.org.

Swim For Health!
Keep Glassell Pool Open Year Round!

The Glassell Pool is due to close after Labor Day. Due to city budget cuts, this is the first year in over a decade that the pool will be operated on a seasonal schedule, open only during the summer. For years, swimmers from all over the Northeast Los Angeles community have enjoyed this pool, which offers lap swim, lessons for swimmers of all ages, and swim and water ballet teams. It also provides life guard training to youths and hosts the Marshall HS swim team during practice and meets against teams like ERHS.

The pool needs $470,000 to remain open between September and June. Friends of Glassell Pool have launched a SWIM FOR HEALTH fundraising effort. The group is looking for local corporate and community partners to help maintain and improve this neighborhood gem. The money raised will be used to supplement and enhance the Recreation and Parks budget. Your donation to the LA Parks Foundation, the City of LA Department of Rec and Parks fiscal agent, is 100% tax deductible. For more information on LAPF, please visit the website at www.lapf.org. Checks are made payable to LA Parks Foundation and should be mailed to the LA Parks Foundation at 11973 San Vicente Blvd, Suite 200, Los Angeles, CA 90049 and earmarked for the Glassell Pool on the memo line.

For more information, please contact Ronnie Solman at (323) 246-5653 or solm2@aol.com.
