On Saturday, September 14, the Office of Councilmember Jose Huizar and the El Sereno Stallions Football & Cheer will be having a community clean-up along Huntington Dr in El Sereno starting at 8am to noon. We will be provide brooms, bags, and gloves. Everyone is welcome. Let's keep our communities clean!

Taste of Fresco

Tender Loving Covers Presents:
Sock Hop Fundraiser

The mission of Tender Loving Covers is simple: to make quilts for orphans and homeless children. There goal is to make enough for different orphanages globally. All proceeds from this event go directly in helping Tender Loving Covers fulfill there mission. At this event there will be DJ Jeff playing original vinyl, as well as special guest, Hank Castro, singer of Thee Midniters.

Enter and win a prize in the best 50's custome contest.

California State University
Los Angeles Campus Law Enforcement Training


 

Date:              Tuesday, September 17

The California State Los Angeles University Police is taking a proactive stance by hosting an Enhanced Active Shooter Training Exercise. University Police will act as facilitators in three separate active shooter scenarios that simulate active shooter on the CSULA campus in one designated building. Along with campus police officers, Sheriff deputies and Los Angeles Fire Department personnel will participate in the training. 

The training will simulate a shooting on a university campus where officers, deputies and fire personnel respond and take action. To create a realistic training scenario, mock gunfire and explosions will be incorporated. Staff and students will also participate as role players to simulate victims and bystanders on a campus shooting. 

People on campus or who live or work near CSULA need to be concerned about the extra presence of law enforcement, as well as the sound of gunfire because it will ONLY be a training exercise. Facebook Small Business Boost Workshop

El Sereno Skate Deck Art Workshop & Art Show

The City Sports Marketing presents the El Sereno Skate Desk Art Workshop & Art Show. Come to learn about art, business, skating and more!

Workshop participants will listen to speakers from various disciplines (design, art, business) and discuss their experience and skills. A Q&A session will be followed by a hands-on skate deck art workshop, Skate Team demonstration, Skate Deck Art Show, Live Music, food and art fair. City of Los Angeles - CityRide Program

 
 

Cityride is a transportation assistance program for individuals age 65 or older and qualified disabled persons in the City of Los Angeles and select areas of Los Angeles County. The program offers Cityride participants reduced costs for the purchase of City of Los Angeles permitted taxi rides and Cityride Dial-A-Ride services.
 
This guide presents program procedures and rules.
 
The Cityride Program is a transportation program funded by Proposition A, Local Transit Assistance (PALTA) funds and administered by the City of Los Angeles Department of Transportation with the assistance of the Department of Aging.

Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month at the Vex Arts Center

The Vex Fine Arts is proud to host a two day event, in a curated group exhibition by award winning curator Omar Holguin and Steve Gates. This will feature a selection of recent works by well established artists including: Pola Lopez, Linda Vallejo, Neca Dantas, Victor Herminio Lopez, Olivia Barrionuevo, Raul Paulino Baltazar, Leo Limon, and many more.. A Special live stage performance by Victor Herminio Lopez, Poetry by Iris De Alva, and a surprise musical guest appearance.

The event will take place on September 27th and 28th both starting at 7:00 pm at The Vex Arts, which is located at 5240 Alhambra Ave., Los Angeles, CA 90032. Admission is free. Mayor's Crisis Response Team


The Mayor's Crisis Response Team (CRT) is looking for volunteers to participate in the Fall 2013 class and become active CRT volunteers.

When: Monday & Wednesday Evenings, 6:30 PM – 9:30 PM
Dates: Monday, Sept. 9, 2013 – Wednesday, October. 23, 2013
Where: LAPD Headquarters in Downtown Los Angeles

ABOUT THE CRISIS RESPONSE TEAM: Members of the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team (CRT) are volunteers who respond to traumatic incidents at the request of the Los Angeles Police and Los Angeles Fire Departments. CRT volunteers provide immediate on-scene crisis intervention, act as a liaison between the victim and emergency personnel and give referrals to victims and their families affected by a death, a violent crime or other traumatic incidents. These incidents include homicides, suicides, serious traffic accidents, natural deaths and multi-casualty incidents.  During the required seven week training to be a member of the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team you will be provided the background, information, training and support to be able to respond to crisis situations as a member of the Mayor’s Crisis Response Team.
