Boyle Heights Beat now seeking youth reporters

Are you a teenager who lives or attends school in Boyle Heights?
Have you ever thought about reporting for your community on topics of health, art and culture or local heroes?
Boyle Heights Beat  is currently seeking youth reporters to participate in an internship program beginning in August. Since 2011, students from the area’s high schools have been mentored by professional journalists to produce a bilingual quarterly community newspaper— por y para la comunidad.
Youth reporters have an opportunity to provide a voice for their community through storytelling—by learning the basics of journalism and interviewing city and state politicians, community leaders, artists and citizens on various topics affecting their neighborhood.
Their stories are published on our website as well as La Opinión, the largest Spanish language newspaper in the country. Interested students must either be a Boyle Heights resident or be enrolled in one of Boyle Heights’ high schools and must commit to regular meetings to complete their stories.
To apply and get more details, email with your name, age, grade, school and phone number.
