Penge Green Gym
Enjoying the Indian Summer
Hello Green Gymers
.....and welcome to the new look newsletter!
The sun shone for the Green Gym this week in Winsford Gardens. Thanks to all of you who came out to enjoy this glorious late summer weather, and a very warm welcome to our new volunteers
The session was spent giving the hazel hedge a haircut, planting out winter vegetable seedlings of pak choi and cabbage, giving the beds and hedgerows some well-needed TLC, and sprucing up the paving. The reward for all this hard work was taking home some of our wonderful organically grown vegetables!
The meadows have now finished flowering and next week it will be time to give them their late summer cut. Do come down, join in and help make Winsford Gardens into a haven for people and wildlife.
We also have a couple of exciting events happening over the next few weeks so read on to find out more....
Penge Green Gym caught on camera!
French TV production company TV Only are coming to film Penge Green Gym at work in Winsford Gardens. 'Garden Party' is the first French TV show dedicated to urban gardens, dealing with green heroes, gardening, green initiatives, and models of urban agriculture. Have a look at some of their films here (although your French might have to be better than mine!). They would like to film the Green Gym session and interview some of the Green Gymers so any volunteers welcome! Please do come down on the 12th and help make this a very special session.

Penge Green Gym trip to Mayow Community Garden
Wednesday 19th September
Penge Green Gym is due to become an independent group in April 2013, run and managed by the volunteers with only background support from The Conservation Volunteers. The steering group who meet monthly have been making initial preparations for this and have come up with the great idea of organising a group trip to another garden run by a community group. This will be a fantastic opportunity to pick up tips and ideas. Therefore, after the session on the 19th September we will be going en masse to have a look round Grow Mayow Community Garden in Sydenham. Further details to follow.
