Last Wednesday we celebrated the summer with our (now) annual BBQ. Many of our volunteers provided some very tasty food and in Len's capable hands the food was cooked to perfection! We were also lucky that the weather has continued to shine on us. After a little light work in the morning making sure the garden was looking at it's best we all sat down to a feast of burgers, sausages, veggy kebabs and salads. Yum!
Lizzy popped by to say hello as well as Stephen Tinker and Councillor Peter Fookes.
The garden continues to bloom even though it is slightly suffering with the lack of rain. It was given another good soaking, with special priority going to the hedge rows, vegetable beds and willow arch and dome. Some of the drier beds were mulched to help keep in moisture.
The dramatic Cardoon in the Croydon Road beds has now flowered and the bees are taking full advantage!
Work has also commenced on rubbing down the notice board that was vandalised. Lizzy brought some new stencils of the words that were covered by graffiti and it will be put on again and varnished this time in an attempt to stop any more graffiti.
We are planning to hold our first AGM on Wednesday October 9th at 2.30pm at Burmarsh Court.
