Penge Green Gym Newsletter
Dear Penge Green Gym Supporters
A busy summer at Winsford Gardens
Local artist Mary Gordon-Smith painted this lovely watercolour for us. She will be part of the SE20 Art Group Annual show at Kenilworth House from Fridya 26th August.
Next Saturday we will be holding a special volunteer day in conjunction with a workshop run by 'Froglife'.
Our program of events started with our Open Day in June. The day started with a few showers and we were glad of our gazebos but by the end the sun came out and so did the the local residents. Much cake eating, plant buying and face-painting was done! And amazingly we raised a record amount for the park so a big thank you to everyone who came out and enjoyed the day, and to the volunteers who put so much hard work into organising it!
Please tell all you friends and family, everyone is welcome.
Success at Winsford!
For the second year running we have been awarded a Green Flag for our continuing commitment to maintenance and sustainable management of the park.
We are also winners of the Penge in Bloom award 2016 for 'Most ecologically friendly garden of plot' and 'most interesting community or residential area'. Well done everyone!
We would like to thanks Waitrose once again for including us in their community token project. We have been given over £200 for ongoing projects in the gardens.
We had a visit from our local brownie group. They helped us weed, water and plant out our raised beds. They also helped fill our insect hotels. Thank you for helping out girls.
In other news
Our AGM was held 2 weeks ago. Reports were given by our Chairperson Brenda Little and Treasurer Chris Morton. New committee members were voted in and we welcomed Simon, Jane and Gavin to our ranks.
The garden continues to bloom over the summer which means lots of weeding and trimming back over exuberant growth. We have had a great volunteer turn out recently, last wednesday we have 22 people! Well done all.
