Update on How to Get Approved for the Penalty Waiver
for Unsecured Business Property Taxes
We all hate paying the unsecured business property taxes and are brutally aware that on 8/31/2020 a payment is due. If you are unable to pay the tax by the deadline, qualifying businesses can apply to waive the penalty fee for late payments. However, the current process only allows you to apply for the waiver after 8/31, once the tax payment deadline has passed and you have not made the payment.
The waiver review process can take up to six weeks. Unpaid balances will continue to accrue additional penalties (10%+) and interest (1.5% per month) which are the responsibility of the taxpayers should the waiver request be denied. You can find more information here and apply for the Unsecured Property Taxes Penalty Waiver here.
We are working with the Office of the Treasurer & Tax Collector, for the City and County of San Francisco, to see if we can get an easy confirmation process for restaurants affected by COVID-19 to apply and know whether or not they will receive a penalty waiver. We hope to have an update by next week.
