Update on Back to Work Ordinance:
OEWD Website and Reporting
The Temporary Right to Reemployment Following Layoff Due to COVID-19 Pandemic Emergency Ordinance (also known as the “Back to Work” Ordinance) requires employers with 100 or more employees operating in San Francisco to offer reemployment to eligible employees laid off as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the related stay at home and shelter in place orders issued by the City of San Francisco when they are rehiring for the same or similar classifications.

The Office of the Treasurer & Tax Collector has sent out targeted notices to employers with 100 or more employees. While OSLE typically manages these types of City ordinances, the “Back to Work” Ordinance is being managed by the Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD) and reporting requirements need to be sent to OEWD.

Employer Reporting Requirements can be found on the dedicated OEWD website:

Have Additional Questions?
The ordinance went into effect on July 3, 2020 and will remain in effect until September 2, 2020. An additional 61 day extension of the Emergency Ordinance is being heard at the Board of Supervisors (BOS), Government Audits and Oversight Committee this Thursday, August 20, 2020 at 10 am. We will keep you updated as this progresses through the BOS.
