Queen's Baton Relay - Show Your Support in Dundee!!

The Queen's Baton Relay comes to Dundee on Fruday 27 June 2014 and there are lots of opportunities to see the baton close up by either standing along the route or attending one of the many events that have been organised across the city.

Congratulations to so many SportDundee committee members and members of SportDundee affiliated clubs for their selection as baton bearers!!  Among those carrying the baton are Harry Byers & Maureen Golden (Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club), Gerry Cahill (Dundee Wildcats Taekwon Do Club), George Ferguson (Broughty United Youth Football Club) and Jim McIlravey (Dundee United Sports Club).

SportDundee Commonwealth Games Challenge - More Fun Still to Come!!

There is still one week to go for the SportDundee Commonwealth Games Challenge with another weekend of fantastic free sporting opportunities ahead.

So far, opportunities have been offered to participate in netball, korfball, football, tennis, rugby, hockey, karate, taekwon do and lots more.

This weekend sees a Kwik Cricket Tournament at Dawson Park run by Cricket Dundee, a Come & Try Rugby Open Day for Dundee Wasps and a Powerchair Football Come & Try organised by Tayside Dynamos at Lynch Sports Centre.

British Championships Success for Dundee Wildcats

Members of Dundee Wildcats Taekwon Do Club came home victorious from the recent British Championships in Kidderminster with a haul of 10 golds, 13 silvers and 9 bronze medals - a fantastic achievement!!

Club members Zoe Hutcheson (2 golds), Blair Calder, Sean Bryceland, Lucy Banks (2 golds), Lucy Bryceland, Anna Donahue (2 golds) and Cherry Barker all returned as British Champions in their selected events.

Well done to everyone involved in the team!!

Summer Open Water Swim Programme Begins

Ye Amphibious Ancients Bathing Association has commenced their Summer Open-Water Swim Programme and are delighted with the recent swell of interest in events with an increase in competitors, in this their 130th year of existence.

The Highlights of the Summer Programme include:
  • YeAABA Discovery Mile on Saturday 9 August 2014.
  • YeAABA Monifieth Championship, on Saturday 28 June 2014
  • ‘Come and Try Open-Water Swimming’ event at Broughty Harbour at 2pm on Sunday 29 June

Also, Chief Ancient, Joyce McIntosh is to be a Commonwealth Games Baton Bearer at events on Friday 27 June 2014.

Grove Menzieshill Under 16s Triumph

Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club U16s won the Scottish National League Championships with a 3-2 win over Clydesdale at Peffermill.
Cameron Golden scored all three goals with the decider crossing the line just before the final whistle.
Earlier in the day the team registered an impressive 7-2 semi-final victory over Watsonians courtesy of Cameron Golden (4), Kyle Robb, Jamie Golden and Cameron Griffiths.

Congratulations to the whole team!!
