DGC2K Gymnast wins bronze at UK School Games

The Scotland Women's Artistic Gymnastics Team came back with the bronze medal from the UK School Games in Manchester on 6 and 7th September.

In the team was Sofia Ramzan, 14, who trains with Dundee Gymnastics Club 2K at the Dick McTaggart Regional Gymnastics Centre. She scored second highest in the 5-strong Scotland team with a personal best all around score and qualified for apparatus finals on vault, bars (with a spectacular katchev move) and beam.

Recognition for Local Hockey Player

Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club player Katie Robertson has been rewarded for her hockey achievements by being named the Young Athlete of the Year at the Dundee Sportsman's Dinner.

The event took place at the Invercarse Hotel on 17 September.  Katie was recognised for her excellent performances including captaining the winning Scotland team at the recent UK School Games.

The main reason for the dinner is to raise funds for local sports clubs and groups. Since the dinner launched in 1992 the group has raised over £360,000.

TeamGym Camp 2014

While the Commonwealth Games were taking place in Glasgow, the Teamgym Summer Camp was being hosted in Dundee at the McTaggart Regional Gymnastics Facility.

Following on from last year's success, a week long training Camp for National level Junior and Senior gymnasts was held. The Camp was supported by a number of local organisations - Dundee University, 203020 Taxis, Taza and Soccerworld in addition to Leisure and Culture Dundee.

Dundee Wildcats Taekwon Do Club members take the USA by storm

After their amazing success at the British Championships in Kidderminster earlier this year 8 members of the Dundee Wildcats Taekwon Do Academy were invited to be part of Team GB and to compete as team members at the prestigious USA World Championships being held in Orlando, Florida.
They competed in the team events for Team GB on the Saturday and as individuals for Team Scotland on the Sunday winning 28 medals over the two days.  There are now 4 new World Champions in their Dojang.
The competition was fierce but fair and no prisoners were taken by any side but after the competition we were all friends. Dundee Wildcats are so proud of their colleagues, they knew they would do well but their success is unprecedented and to be honest phenomenal.
STF President Gerry Cahill says he is so proud of everyone of them. They worked so hard all year training for this competition and their efforts paid off big time. The Dojang motto is train hard, fight easy. This was proven conclusively in the USA. Praise came from all quarters and they have been invited back to compete in Texas next year.

If you would like to train with these fabulous martial artists call Scottish Taekwon Do Coach Unity Kane on Dundee 350572 or check out our website, Established in Dundee for over 20 years.
