Netball Dundee League Launched

The new Netball Dundee League was launched at Lynch Sports Centre on Sunday 20 October 2013.

Shona Robison MSP, Minister for Commonwealth Games & Sport, Joe Fitzpatrick MSP, Minister for Parliamentary Business, Lord Provost Bob Duncan, Fiona McEwan, Vice Chair of the Commonwealth Games & Geraldine Moore, Netball Scotland all attended the official launch.

The league has been made possible through the hard work of Patricia Osborne (Chair of Netball Dundee), Fiona Booth, Susan Johnstone and all the teams who have agreed to set up & participate in the league.

The teams currently participating in the league are Dundee Dodgers, Dundee West, Dundee University (2 teams), Abertay University, Arbroath, Angus & TNT.

It is hoped that the set up of the new league will stimulate more interest in the sport in the city which will lead to other development opportunities.

New Home for Nomads

A new season brings a new home for Dundee Nomads Junior Badminton Club. After many years at Harris Academy, Nomads are on the move to a new home at Eastern Primary School.

The junior club welcomes children of school age from 8 - 10pm on Friday evenings and the new premises has allowed the club to merge its primary and secondary age sessions. This will allow players to move between age groups where a higher level challenge is needed and the club hopes this will lead to an improved pathway for players to the senior club.

Nomads are also running a successful scheme for players participating in the Duke of Edinburgh awards scheme. Not only can they offer a good standard of badminton for the activity section but interested children can be mentored in badminton coaching as part of the "service" aspect of the scheme. This could be extended to any students interested in gaining coaching experience at a busy, successful badminton club.

For membership details and if interested in helping out with coaching, please contact Steve Cummings at 07525 766182 or steve_cummings@live.co.uk.

Youth Hockey Festival Fun!!

Grove Menzieshill Hockey Club hosted a Youth Festival at Dawson Park on Sunday 29th September.

The day was a great success with 165 youths, aged 6-16, playing hockey.  Youth teams that competed included Harris, Kinross, Blairgowrie, Perth, Brechin-Monarchs, Dunfermline, Junior Hockey Strikers and Grove Menzieshill hockey clubs.

Thanks must go to Chris Anderson and Harry Byers along with the hockey clubs team of youth ambassadors for organising and running the event.  The newly appointed team of club development youth ambassadors set up, coordinated, umpired and coached the five age grouped match schedule, which ran from 10am to 4pm.

Congratulations to the club on all their positive work!!
