Healthwatch Wandsworth is the independent champion for people in Wandsworth who use health and social care services.

We are here to make sure that those running services, put people at the heart of care.

Enter & View visit to East Wandsworth Community Mental Health Team

We went to speak to people who have support from East Wandsworth Community Mental Health Team (CMHT).

The role of Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs) is to provide treatment and support in the community for people with serious mental illness who cannot be treated or supported by primary care services but who do not need to be in hospital.

Mental health is regularly identified by our members as a major priority. We were aware that the emphasis of mental health policy, nationally and locally, has been on minimising the need for hospital admissions by relying increasingly on community services.

Experiences of Wandsworth Recovery Café

Local people have told us that mental health should be a top priority for us to focus on this year. We spoke to people to find out their experiences of our local recovery café, a relatively new type of service aiming to offer peer support, therapeutic activities and a "safe" place for people to talk.

Between June and September 2019 the Healthwatch Wandsworth team visited the Hestia Recovery Café in Tooting four times. We talked to the people there and, if people wished to participate, we worked through a survey with them, recording their answers for them.

Read what people told us about using this service in our report here.

Our last Healthwatch Wandsworth Assembly
We talked about Health Inequalities at our event in September 2019. Health Inequalities are known as unfair and avoidable differences in the health of people across social and population groups.

Last year we started a conversation about the topic and wrote a report about what people told us about their experiences. We wanted to find out what had happened since our event last year and to build on feedback we received by looking closer at one of the issues around communicating with people about health.

Have your say on recovery, rehabilitation and re-ablement services

We want to hear from you if, in the last two years, you have had a health or care service that has helped you with short-term recovery, rehabilitation and re-ablement for physical, mental and social care needs.

These types of services can be provided in different setting including hospitals, care homes or at a persons home. This can include support from doctors, physiotherapists, occupational therapists and more.

You can take part confidentially but we will use the information to help decision makers understand how such services can be improved as they consider new ways of working together.

Do you receive social care in Wandsworth and want to be involved in shaping social care services?

Wandsworth Council's Co-production and Partnership Group wants local people who use social services, carers and voluntary sectors representatives to work in partnership with council staff to help shape the way adult social care services are developed.

The group is made up of 15 local users and carers of adult social care services as well as partners and representatives of local users and carers who have experience of the local health and social care system.

Where possible, members of the group are asked to discuss issues on the agenda with any relevant groups or networks prior to attending meetings and report back to the Group as appropriate.
