Welcome to the 2019 season of Teaching Today podcasts – a podcast about teachers, with teachers and for teachers.
This episode is a myth busting special! We bust some common misconceptions about the appraisal process.
Our myth busters are Teaching Council lead advisor Christina Thornley and ERO manager of national projects Jane Lee. Together they demystify the appraisal process and explain how effective appraisal is a lever that drives up best practice in teaching and why it’s teachers and learners who reap the benefits.
Christina Thornley is a familiar face to many in the education sector, having been a primary school teacher for many years, and now travels the country delivering Our Code, Our Standards workshops to thousands of teachers. She is passionate about strengthening appraisal and is aspirational about what appraisal can do to maximise benefits for teachers and learners.
Jane Lee is the manager of national projects at the Education Review Office. She is on the ground in schools and centres, performing audits and reviews, and seeing the results quality appraisal processes have on the growing and learning of teachers and learners.
We know teachers are busy and podcasts are a versatile way of communication – they are great to listen to while commuting, doing chores or exercising and if you run out of time, just press pause and come back to it.
