BDMUP001: Baitface - Orbital / Substratum
Release Date: 21st September 2012
Our debut release introduces Badimup owner and founder; Baitface.
BDMUP001 consists of two cuts of Techno-infused Dubstep from the 20 year old, South London born and raised, producer. The now Kent based, Baitface (Real name, Alex James) shows the full potential of his sound palette with these examples of genre crossing underground music.
The title track; Orbital, creates an eerie sense of space as it builds with its sustained pads, groove defining stabs and UFO sighting sample in the intro and breakdown. The minimal percussion then develops into an infectious first drop with a solid drum section and techy chord progression. The second drop brings an element of surprise as it switches things up even further once the aggy filtered bass line comes into full effect. Substratum, the b-side, is a lot more sub bass intensive with the odd distorted mid-range sweep thrown in for good measure. The rhythm is a lot more sparse than Orbital at first, but the rolling kicks soon encourage the rest of the percussion to join in. The deep chords and plucks develop across the first section into a peak, where eyes-down skanking just feels like the right thing to do. The other half of the track strips away from this pattern gradually, before hitting back and then summing up with a finalising speech sample to compliment the previous.
Orbital / Substratum have both already received crucial support with an incredible reception via Rood FM and Sub FM. Support from DJ’s including Content, 2E, Foster and Jack Swift. The EP will be on sale from 21st September 2012 via all online music stores! (iTunes, Beatport, Juno etc.)
