The Friends of the Somerville Public Library will hold an extended Book Sale this Spring from Thursday May 15th to Sunday May 18th. The sale will be held at the Central Library located at 79 Highland Avenue (bus #88 or #90).
This year’s collection of books for sale is particularly strong in History, Biography, Literature, and Fiction. The sale also features a large collection of classical music and opera vinyl records. All items are $2, except kids books still $1.
Supporting Members of the Friends (those with memberships of $50 or more) are invited to attend a preview evening on Wednesday May 14th from 5-8pm. This evening includes a beer tasting courtesy of the Somerville Brewing Co.
Saturday May 17th is also PorchFest in Somerville and local band Luddy Mussy will be performing on the Central Library plaza around 3pm. #mykindaparty
All proceeds from the book sale are used to support cultural and educational programs at the library including the popular Museum Pass Program. Leftover books will be donated to local non-profit groups or sold off online. Please contact the Friends to be considered for a book donation.
So the Library Ride happened...
What a day it was; weather, riding and good people. And we raised almost $800 for the proposed airpump install and ongoing funding of extra programs at the 3 Somerville Library branches (such as discounted Museum Passes).
Photos of the ride can be seen at www.thelibraryride.com thanks to Kevin Wolfson. For future Friends activities (such as the upcoming book sale) follow us at facebook.com/FriendsOfTheSomervillePublicLibrary or on twitter @Friends_SPL.
Thanks again to Whole Foods for the healthy snacks and waters, Union Sq Donuts for the sugared-smile-send-off, and a huge high five goes to the Somerville Police Department for looking after our safety throughout the ride. Amazing feeling to be barreling down Highland Ave en masse with a cruiser for back up - thank you officers! Thanks also to our ride partners Archival Clothing, Tretorn, Redbones, the Somerville Bicycle Committee and the other hard-working volunteers on the day.
