LSU-SRP researchers teach girls about pollution
Hundreds of girls from all over Louisiana attended the 2012 Sally Ride Science Festival held in Baton Rouge on Saturday, Sept. 22.

LSU-SRP researchers present at SRP-ATSDR conference
Several LSU researchers participated in "
Connecting Research and Practice: A Dialogue between ATSDR and the NIEHS Superfund Research Program" held in Atlanta, Ga. August 7-
8, 2012.
Stephania Cormier of the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans gave a talk entitled “Radical- Containing PM0.2 Initiates Epithelial-to-Mesenchymal Transitions in Infant Airway Epithelial Cells” in the session on emerging contaminants.
Cormier's studies examine how adult airways disease such as asthma results, in part, from environmental insult(s) that occurs during a critical window of pulmonary and immunological immaturity.
This and other presentations, as well as related discussions held during the conference, provided opportunities for ATSDR personnel to learn about cutting-edge research from scientists across the SRP, while SRP researchers learned more about ATSDR’s Superfund-related research and informational needs.

Response, Recovery & Resilience Symposium
The new date for the Response, Recovery, and Resilience to Oil Spills and Environmental Disasters: Engaging Experts and Communities is Jan. 29, 2013. The symposium, which was postponed because of Hurricane Isaac, will feature presentations about: Enhancing Community Resilience, Innovative Methods and Approaches to Respond to Environmental Disasters, and Adaptive Strategies for Community Recovery.
Featured speakers will be: Dr. Margaret Reams, LSU; Marylee Orr, LEAN; Dr. Kim Anderson, Oregon State; Dr. Anna Harding, Oregon State; Wilma Subra, USEPA; Tuan Nguyan, Mary Queen of Vietnam Community; and representatives from the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality.
