LSU-SRP Researcher Travels to China to Foster Collaboration

Dr. Slawo Lomnicki of the LSU Superfund Research Center Materials Core traveled to Hangzhou, China from Oct. 14 - Nov. 5, 2012 to visit Dr. Shengyong Lu and others at  Zhejiang University’s Institute for Thermal Power Engineering.  While there, Lomnicki presented some of the findings of the  LSU-SRP related to combustion by-products. In addition, Lomnicki is helping to develop a program of environmentally persistent free radicals (EPFRs) research at Zheijiang University.

Response, Recovery, and Resilience to Oil Spills and Environmental Disasters: Engaging Experts and Communities

The LSU Superfund Research Center will host a symposium and workshop for community stakeholders, researchers and policymakers from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2013 in the Energy, Coast and Environment Building on the LSU campus in Baton Rouge. This event is sponsored by:  Louisiana State University Superfund Research Center, LSU Department of Environmental Sciences School of Coast and the Environment, Oregon State University Superfund Research Program, Oregon State University Environmental Health Sciences Center, and the Louisiana Environmental Action Network (LEAN). Topics to be covered include: Enhancing Community  Resilience, Innovative Methods and Approaches to Respond to Environmental Disasters and Adaptive Strategies to Community Recovery. 13th International Congress on Combustion By-Products and Their Health Effects

The 13th International Congress on Combustion By-Products and Their Health Effects is scheduled for May 15-18, 2013 at the New Orleans Downtown Marriott Convention Center. This international meeting will bring together academic, government, and industrial representatives to present research findings, update international policy, and discuss critical issues concerning emissions of toxic by-products from combustion processes.  The meeting will begin with registration and a welcome reception on the evening of Wednesday, May 15.  The conference will end at noon on Saturday, May 18.  There will be six plenary sessions featuring invited talks by established leaders and junior investigators and a poster session on Thursday evening.

Deadline to register is Feb. 1. Early registration deadline is Jan. 13. For registration information, click here. Feb. 1 also is the deadline for discounted hotel rooms.
