Quick Update & Accessibility Events

29th of September 2017
Greetings all,
As we get into the last few months of 2017, there are many up-coming events that will interest those interested in accessibility and diversity.  We thought it might help to give you a list of some of the accessibility-related events.  Hopefully you can make it to at least some of these.  If you’d like more information please feel free to contact the organisations with the links we’re provided.
I was honoured to be a speaker at the recent DDD Perth Conference, held September 16 at the Perth Convention Centre (click here to find out more).  This was by far one of the most well-organised conferences I’ve spoken at, or attended.  Hats off to an incredible team of volunteers who put this on, and to fantastic sponsors Bankwest, Readify, Microsoft, Livehire, Lateral and Virtual Gaming Worlds.  It was great to be able to give information on the benefits and responsibilities of accessible development direct to those doing the development work.  While I might have made some a little nervous, from the feedback I received they really seemed to appreciate the information.
On Thursday night this week, I presented at the ACS YoungIT event sponsored by NIT.  It was again a great opportunity to present to the next generation of ICT Professionals, to encourage them and to help them understand the difference they can make in the lives of people with disabilities.
Over the last six months, we have been building our internal user testing team to augment the work of our technical audit team.  We now have a team of expert user testers, all of whom have a disability.  Each member of the team provides a report following a user journey that the client and/or Web Key IT staff prescribe, reporting on any difficulties they encounter on the journey that impacts them with their disability and assistive technology needs. This report is then placed within our technical report document, but separated from the specific WCAG 2.0 requirements.  It provides a demonstration to the client of how the technical accessibility issues located in the technical audit impact users with disabilities. We will also be able to bring members of the user team to a client’s premises to provide demonstrations of the impact of issues and to demonstrate to developers what needs to be done to rectify the issue. Please contact us if you would like more information about this service.
While the coming months are looking really busy, we want to remind our customers that we are always pleased to present our ‘Learn at Lunchtime’ for your staff and customers.  Please contact us at if you would like to book a free, no-obligation presentation at your premises to rejuvenate or kick-start your accessibility project. All it costs you is lunch for your staff, or you can even suggest they bring a packed lunch.  You can also contact us if you would like information about any up-coming public training sessions or if you would like information about a training day(s) specifically customised for your organisation.
Keep making a difference!

Director, Web Key IT
