School Nutrition has a new address 

CDE School Nutrition is excited to announce we are moving office locations at the end of August. Our new address is 1525 Sherman St. Suite 309, Denver, CO 80203. The updated address will appear on the website and resources in the months to come.

Program Tips

Submit the 2020-21 school nutrition programs application 

Sponsors can now complete and submit the 2020-21 school year school nutrition programs application. Detailed application instructions are available on the How to Apply webpage. The application will be completed in the Colorado Nutrition Portal. Keep in mind that applications are due at the end of September and can take up to three weeks to approve.

State issued student ID (SASID) reminders and best practices

Families applying to receive Pandemic-EBT must have a state issued student ID, sometimes referred to as a SASID, for each student in their household. The state issued ID must be provided, or easily accessible, to families by the school or district. As a reminder, the state issued ID for public schools is 10 digits long and cannot start or end with a zero. Private school IDs will vary in length and may contain letters and numbers.

Best practices for providing the state issued IDs include:

  • Sending the IDs directly to households

  • Providing contact information for families to obtain IDs

  • Providing access to IDs within existing Parent Portals along with detailed instructions on how to find the IDs 

  • Collaborating with Hunger Free Colorado or United Way to assist with ID dissemination

Sponsors can use the CDE P-EBT Communication toolkit or the Hunger Free Colorado Outreach toolkit to help provide information to families about P-EBT, how they can apply for P-EBT and how they can obtain their state issued IDs. View more information on the school meal eligibility webpage

Program Resources

New procurement resources are available

  • Visit the back-to-school web page for information on back-to-school procurement considerations, purchasing vended meals during the 2020-21 school year, and back-to-school equipment tips. 

  • Take the Procurement 101 online training, which provides an overview of procurement in child nutrition programs. Participants identify the five steps of the procurement process, make purchases using the appropriate procurement method, and identify the importance of proper procurement procedures.

As a reminder, the CDE School Nutrition Unit will not conduct procurement reviews during the 2020-21 school year.

New menu planning and meal service resources

As sponsors adapt menus to meet the needs of various meal service models, visit the back-to-school webpage for resources on menu planning best practices. Resources include the SNA dining guide for meals in the classroom, the CSNA grab n' go menu and recipe ideas, and communication and marketing materials. To help increase vegetable consumption, reduce plate waste, and assist sponsors in meeting vegetable subgroup requirements, legume recipe ideas can be found on the menu planning webpage
