Early Learning & School Readiness


** Submit letter of intent for ELAT Project

Acadience Reading (formerly DIBELS Next) and ISIP Early Reading are assessments that teachers may use to obtain reading skill levels of K-3 students in support of the READ Act. Pending legislative approval during the 2020 session, CDE will offer both assessments through the Early Literacy Assessment Tool (ELAT) project for the 2020-21 school year.

ELAT will require a letter of intent for participation. The process will close Wednesday, Nov. 13. For more details, visit the ELAT webpage.

Upcoming meetings for induction providers

CDE will hosts Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings for those interested in the design and delivery of induction programs for teachers, special services providers, principals and administrators. These meetings are an opportunity for professionals across the state to collaborate.

Three in-person meetings and one virtual meeting will be offered this December:

  • Summit School District (Frisco)
    9 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9
  • Virtual meeting
    10-11:30 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 12
  • Greeley School District 6
    10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 13
  • Adams 12 Five Star School (Thornton)
    10 a.m. - 3:30 p.m., Wednesday, Dec. 18

Register for a grant writing training

In a free one-day training, attendees will learn about CDE's competitive grant processes as well as helpful tips for writing proposals. All representatives from schools and districts are welcome to attend. Certificates of completion are available. 

Registration for training is limited to 20 participants. Training will be held 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at  Young Americans Bank, 3550 East 1st Ave., Denver. Register via EventBrite.

Reviewers needed for Concurrent Enrollment Expansion and Innovation Grant

CDE is seeking peer reviewers of applications for the Concurrent Enrollment Expansion and Innovation Grant program. The program provides funding to partnering local education providers and institutions of higher education that want to offer or to expand on their concurrent enrollment opportunities to qualified students.

Readers will review and assess their assigned applications individually and then participate in a full-day team discussion on Wednesday, Nov.  20, at 1560 Broadway, Denver.

To confirm interest, fill out the Reader Response Survey by Wednesday, Nov. 6. Readers are selected based on their relevant qualifications and the number of grant applications received. Those selected will be contacted with additional information no later than Friday, Nov. 8.

CDE is seeking peer reviewers of applications for the Ninth Grade Success Grant program. This program provides funding to local education providers and charter schools to assist students enrolled in ninth grade to develop the skills they need for high school.

Readers will review and assess their assigned applications individually and then participate in a full-day team discussion on Wednesday, Dec. 4, at the University of Northern Colorado Denver Center at Lowry, 1059 Alton Way, Denver.

To confirm interest, fill out the Reader Response Survey by Thursday, Nov. 21. Readers are selected based on their relevant qualifications and the number of grant applications received. Those selected will be contacted with additional information no later than Friday, Nov. 22.
