Donor Stewardship tips from a 12-year old boy

I remember the first time I had to ask my son to pick up the phone and call his grandparents to say thank you for a gift he had received.  You would have thought I was asking him to enter into the scariest of haunted houses all on his own – he was terrified!

I couldn’t figure it out.

It’s not like he was calling strangers.  And he was grateful.  But he couldn’t do it.  He was afraid of the phone.

News from the Team

Monthly highlights, tips and missives from one of our far-flung Fundraising Pharmacists

Recently, our Fundraising Pharmacist, Andrea Kopylech learned about a rather remarkable occurrence at an charity gala in Saskatoon...

Circle Drive Special Care Home provides quality care to 54 elderly residents in south Saskatoon, including dignified end-of-life care.
To raise funds dedicated to increased nursing staff to take care of their residents, they host the Harvest Dinner Fundraising Gala every October.  The highlight of the evening is the live dessert auction featuring gorgeous gourmet pies created by professional local pastry chefs.

These beautiful creations go up for auction after dinner, to provide attendees a chance for a special dessert.  This is a nice little twist on a typical charity gala and our team is in love with this sweet idea.

But it gets better.

In talking with Karen Lilly, the person in charge of fundraising and communication for Circle Drive Special Care Home we learned that during this special part of the evening something magical happens.  People bid on pies, and the winner (bids often exceed $1000)  brings it to their table to share with the guests they are seated with.  And very often, only a slice or two is taken, then the pies are sent back to be auctioned again.  And the partially eaten pies continue to receive bids in excess of $1000.

These donors obviously are simply in love with the work this organization does.  We think this shows the deep commitment of Circle Drive Special Care Home donors and the amazing spirit that exists in Saskatchewan!
