After being postponed two times in the last year, IWBF Europe finally announces the official dates for the European Championship Men U22 2020 and has the pleasure to inform that the event has been awarded to the Italian Wheelchair Basketball Federation (FIPIC)! Due to the Coronavirus Pandemic the event that should have taken place in summer 2020 has been delayed to 2021.
Originally planned for August 2020, successively postponed to January 2021, the 11th European Champion Men U22 will take finally take place from June 13th to June 18th, 2021 in Lignano Sabbiadoro, Italy! The championship is a Qualification Tournament for World Championships Men U23 which will be held in Chiba, Japan. Initially the European Championship Women U24 was also included. However, due to the low number of participating teams, IWBF Europe had to take the difficult decision to cancel the women competition for this year.

Turkey, current U22 European Champion and 2017 U23 World Championship silver medallist, will fight to keep the title. The other participating teams are Germany and Spain, respectively 2nd and 3rd place at the ECMU22 2018, Poland, France, Italy and Israel. Eligible players are those born on or after January 1st, 1999.
Special measures are being prepared by FIPIC and the Local Organizing Committee, in collaboration with IWBF Europe, to ensure that the event will proceed with safety and the health of everyone participating in mind.
More information on the event will be available in the following month. We will keep you posted as we are looking forward to a safe and sportively exciting championship!
