Principal’s Corner

March 2017

Dear Presidio Family,

On Thursday evening, March 30, we are showcasing Presidio High School from 5:30 to 7 P.M. The high school band will be performing, and the Presidio Career and College Readiness class will have "Super Pop" popcorn and nachos for sale. Classrooms will be open and teachers will be on hand to describe our curriculum and programs. This is a great opportunity to learn what Presidio High School is about and why we are one of the premier high schools in Arizona. On Saturday, April 8th, we will have have a similar showcase for grades two through seven from 1 to 4 P.M. Pizza, Eegees, and Popcorn will be sold. Again, classrooms will be open and teachers available. Please tell your friends and promote our Presidio enrollment!

Our seventh graders are heading to Mt. Lemmon for University of Arizona's Sky Camp on May 10th. This is an exciting science learning opportunity, and students are busy fundraising to cover the costs of the event. Congratulations, 7th graders and Ms. Cmiel!

Our yearbook commemorating Presidio School's 20th year is coming! Order forms will be available the second week of April. Don't miss this special edition of the Presidio yearbook!

Please note that there is no school on April 14th and 17th. Enjoy the mini-break!

For the first time, Presidio will hold an honors dinner to celebrate achievements of our high school students. The event takes place May 19th from 4 to 6:30 P.M. at Pappy's event center, 1290 W Prince Road. Invitations will be sent out soon.

Testing Calendar

Our upcoming testing calendar begins Tuesday, April 11th with AIMS Science for grades four, eight, and ten. AzMERIT assessments continue for students in grades three through eleven through April 26th. This year we have scheduled students in grades three through eight to have only one test session per day to avoid fatigue.  Please mark these dates, as it is important for 100% of our students to participate. In addition, please avoid making appointments during the school day on these dates.

These assessments are an opportunity for our students to “show what they know” and also give us valuable feedback for our instructional program. It is through state testing that Presidio earned its “A” rating.  To continue our tradition of excellence, we strive to create conditions that encourage the students to do their best. We ask that you do so as well. Getting a good night’s rest and eating a good breakfast during test week are extremely helpful for young minds.  Thank you for your assistance in this and for all that you do to enable student learning!

As the beautiful weather returns, I wish you all a happy and productive Spring!

Dr. Mark Saliba

Fundraising Opportunity

Dear Parents,

This year we have partnered with Shoparoo to leverage their hassle-free approach to raising thousands of dollars for Presidio.  7,000+ schools are already fundraising through Shoparoo and we see it as a great opportunity for us to make a difference this year.

With the free Shoparoo app, all you have to do to raise money for our school is take pictures of your receipts from the grocery store, restaurants, etc. with your phone!  Shoparoo does not require any buying, selling, collecting, delivering, etcetera… and, it works no matter where you shop or what you buy!

Yes, it really is that easy.  Our school receives a donation for every applicable receipt picture taken through the free Shoparoo app.  There is no limit to how much we can raise with Shoparoo, so please download the app and start taking pictures today.  Also, each of our first 20 participants will earn a guaranteed $1 donation for their first receipt!

1. Download the free Shoparoo app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
2. Once it’s downloaded, select our school as your cause and take pictures of receipts!
3. Invite other parents and members of the community to participate in this simple fundraiser.
If you have any questions, you can contact Ms. Erin at efoudy@presidioschool.com or visit www.shoparoo.com.

Thank you for your support!
