POSITIVE CHANGE ON WHEELS

Less Stuff to Landfill

An aim of Revolve ReCYCLING is to make sure old bikes don’t go to landfill by recycling or reusing the materials from them. That saves resources and cuts greenhouse gases. We love watching our numbers grow since we started a year ago:

· 42 tonnes of material diverted from landfill;

· 3500 bikes and scooters recycled or redeployed;

· Hundreds of kids’ bikes given out for free;

· Five disadvantaged people provided with paid work;

· 45 tonnes of greenhouse gases abated.

It’s why we were thrilled to receive a Highly Commended award from Keep Australia Beautiful Council’s Sustainable Cities initiative!

Free Bikes for Kids

All children’s bikes that can be redeployed by Revolve ReCYCLING go for free to kids who need them. We believe that every kid in Australia can and should have a bike (or scooter). Our recipients include:

· Kids of Ukrainian refugees;

· Disadvantaged country kids in partnership with AusCycling;

· Indigenous kids in Sydney in partnership with Tribal Warrior’s youth mentor program.

If you know of worthy kids’ charities in Sydney that can get bikes to kids, let us know!

Folks Doing Good

As well as accepting old bikes for new life from householders, Revolve ReCYCLING works with many people and organisations in different ways:

· Strata and facility managers who have us pick up abandoned or unused bikes from residential buildings or commercial sites;

· Council staff who want old bikes recycled or reused, and want to run bike service education for their residents;

· Principals and teachers who let us organise ‘Bring Your Bike Back’ days – together with student education – at their schools;

Bike fleet managers – like Neuron – who want to take greater responsibility as part of their share bike schemes

Bike Shops Going Greener

Bikes are great for the environment, but even they have an impact including what happens at bike retail and repair shops – some 100 across Sydney.

Let’s decrease the footprint – or wheelprint – we say.

Revolve ReCYCLING is working with leading shops - Omafiets (Alexandria), Glowworm (Marrickville), 99 Bikes (Stanmore, Bondi and Alexandria) and Sydney Electric Bikes (Ultimo & Hornsby) - to see what more can be done to recover, recycle and reduce more material from ‘back of house’ like cardboard, soft plastics, rubber, e-waste, batteries and metals.
