Letter from the Principal

Greetings Lincoln families,

We conducted our first school tour this week and continued the tradition of having our older students be a part of the tour. The participants really enjoy hearing about Lincoln from the students’ perspective. The dates of the tours are on our new updated website. Jennifer Holtzmann is responsible for creating this marvelous website. I didn’t realize how shabby ours was until she showed me the new one.

DPS requires that all schools practice drills second semester. Consequently, we will be doing a lockdown and lockout drill. We have no control over the times that these two drills are implemented. As you recall, I do not announce to the children that we are in a lockdown. The voice comes through DPS offsite equipment. As always, we will do our best to keep students calm during the drill. Afterwards, we will send an email letting you know that the drill happened. Additionally, we will do a shelter in place drill as well as our monthly fire drills.

Science Night will be held Feb. 6 from 6-7:30 p.m. This year will be a little different than the past few years. We have had a group of parent volunteers engaged with the 4th/5th/6th graders to create science projects learning the practical use of the scientific method. All groups will present their science projects at Science Night. Please come and encourage the upper elementary students in this endeavor! They are super excited to show you what they have created. Along with these projects, we will still have multiple stations practicing science concepts similar to those done in the past. If there are any parents interested in conducting interesting on-site experiments (such as the exploding volcano!) on Science Night, please contact the parent lead volunteer Teena Sebastian as soon as possible. We look forward to seeing you all on February 6th.

The window for Round One of School Choice opens on January 15th and closes February 15th at 4:00 PM. All Primary Montessori 3- and 4-year-olds planning to return in the 2019/2020 school year are required to fill out a Round 1 Application for tuition purposes. Additionally, 5th and 6th graders transitioning to middle school should also complete an application. Please complete your application online. For more information please consult the dpsk12.org website.

Next week, our 6th graders will be greeting families and opening doors for our children.

Sound formation rhythm and drums

In this unique class you’ll learn an easy way to truly master rhythm. The proprietary tools and method we teach allow you to transfer your groove onto any other instrument with our guidance later on, and/or just get awesome at percussion now! Strategic and fun games develop your listening skills, performance ability, and overall musicality. The fundamental math involved in rhythm is explained at grade specific levels. We use a beautiful blend of hand-percussion instruments like djembe, cajon, darbuka, claves and more. There will be a performance the final day. Our teachers have degrees, Masters degrees, and even Ph.Ds in music.
