Yes, we need to ask for money !
I don’t know anybody who enjoys receiving requests for money – they arrive in the mail, they come into our email inboxes, even via a telephone call. Equally, I am not totally thrilled to be doing the asking today … but because of the need, I do so without apology. I have to assume, because you are reading this newsletter, that you already know of the work of Canadian Friends, supporting the Maternal and Child Health programme of Hôpital Albert Schweitzer Haiti.
You already know the needs in Haiti, ranging from specialist paediatric care and surgery, to nutrition support and inoculations against disease. The costs range through salaries of medical professionals and support staff, to costs of pharmaceuticals, medical/surgical supplies, equipment, and nutrition supplements. Equally important but often overlooked are the peripheral but essential costs of utilities and maintenance of the hospital and its campus.
Each November for the past 4 years, CFHAS has provided $100,000 to the hospital for Maternal and Child Health Care. This year, we have again given $100,000CAD but regrettably, this year our weakened Canadian dollar only bought $80,000USD.
For November 2016, we’d like to be able once again to provide HAS with $100,000. But to achieve that in American dollars, we at CFHAS need to raise closer to $130,000CAD.
In order to move towards this goal, we offer the following suggestion for you –
Setting up an on-going deduction from credit card or bank account in favour of CFHAS. This can be set for regular intervals such as monthly, bi-monthly, weekly, quarterly, or whatever you choose. The ideal way to do this is to go to our website ( cfhas.ca ) and follow the appropriate donation links.
Naturally, any one-time donation would also be welcomed … to commemorate a life, to celebrate a milestone, or just because you want to!
On behalf of the children of the Artibonite region in Haiti, and their mothers –
Thank you … Mesi anpil
