Welcome to my first ever e-bulletin!
In these occasional e-bulletins I will be sending you news about any exhibitions I’m involved in, Open Studio events, art sales and any other newsworthy event directly related to my artistic endeavours. I anticipate that I will only be sending out 3 or 4 a year, but if an extra exhibition snicks in between bulletins I might need to alert you to a private view invitation you might otherwise miss. If at any time you decide you would rather not get these e-bulletins from me you can easily unsubscribe – and I will NOT be offended!
Here’s a quick list of what’s in this e-bulletin:-
First annual Etsy sale -1-5 July
Devon Guild Summer show – 30 June – 2 September
Exhibition at Lyme Regis – 23 June – 22 July

Some of you will be aware that I now have a shop on Etsy – this is an e-commerce website focused on handmade, vintage and supplies.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed having my little Etsy shop. It's been fantastic knowing that my work is being seen all over the world. I have mainly been listing small items that are affordable and easy to post. My modest aim when I set it up last year was to sell on average one print a month and I’m very pleased to say that I have more than achieved that. I confess to getting over excited whenever I have to post one of my pieces of artwork to America, Australia, Scotland, London – well anywhere really!
To celebrate my first year on Etsy I am having a shop wide sale for 5 days!
1st to 5th July.
Please note that you do not need to have a PayPal account to pay via PayPal.

2. Devon Guild Summer show – 30 June – 2 September
Private View Fri 29 June 6.00 – 8.00pm
The Devon Guild of Craftsmen
,Riverside Mil, Fore Street
Bovey Tracey, Devon TQ13 9AF
The Devon Guild’s annual Summer Exhibition this year is titled Reaching for Gold and coincides with the 2012 Olympics. On display is a selection of new work produced by Members of the Guild in response to the title and reflect on the Olympic vision. I know for a fact that there is some stunning work there from a wide range of craft disciplines. This summer show is the last time that I’m taking part on the Selection Election Committee. It has been an amazing experience being part of the selection com and I have learnt so much from the other committee members. But the dates kept clashing with when I had teaching sessions so I really can't afford to keep doing it.
I better just mention, that whenever a committee member submits work to the summer show they have to leave the room while their piece is being looked at by the rest of the committee – just in case you were wondering.
Here’s a sneak-peek at one of the pieces I had
accepted for the show, you will have to trot along to
Bovey Tracey to get a proper look.
Visitors can vote for their favourite work to win a prize plus Gold, Silver and Bronze awards are given to exhibits chosen by the Guild’s President Peter Randall-Page.
FREE. Open daily 10am-5.30pm
3. Exhibition at Lyme Regis – 23 June – 22 July
In the Malthouse Gallery at the Town Mill
, Lyme Regis, Dorset DT7 3PU
This is a nice little venue at a working water mill with artisan shops, galleries and workshops. This exhibition is their 5th Open exhibition and competition and shows a wide range of work to suit all tastes. I have just the one Wonder Weed on display there but its hanging alongside a number of friends of mine, so I know it’s in good company. It you do trot along to Lyme for a jolly day out don’t forget to vote in the People’s Choice for the artwork you like best.
I can also highly recommend the ice-cream and local cheeses from the Cheesemonger’s across the yard.
Exhibition open 11am – 4pm daily. Free.
4. Thelma Hulbert Open – 14 July 8 Sept
Thelma Hulbert Gallery
, Elmfield House, Dowell Street, Honiton, Devon EX14 1LX
This is the HG Open 2012: Equality & Endeavour. This exhibition has become so popular now that it is highly competitive to actually get your work in and at the time of writing I don’t even know if the one piece I’ve submitted has been accepted or not! To be honest – I had forgotten that the “theme” this year is Equality & Endeavour, so unless the selectors recognise that my etching about the Vanishing of the Bees nods towards equality for the bees and their endeavour to survive, I might just get bumped out.
But whether my piece gets in or not, the Thelma Hulbert Open is always worth going to take a look at. As they put it themselves - “It is a perfect opportunity to view and purchase work by both established and emerging artists from the region, as well as an opportunity to vote for your favourite work to win our popular Visitor’s Choice prize”.
Open Tues to Sat 10.00-5.00pm. Free.
5. Double Elephant news
Double Elephant Print Workshop
, Exeter Phoenix, Bradninch Place, Gandy Street, Exeter, Devon, EX4 4EU
For me the main piece of news at Double Elephant is that the bookings for courses are now done on line – and I’m having to learn very rapidly about how to manage this. So please bear with me while I get to grips with it. Click this to take a look
at the range of courses on offer.
Other than the regular courses we have running all year, there are several Summer Specials
this year. Too many to mention them ALL here – but I will mention the one that I am running on Fri 24 August. So for all the printmakers out there - Colour Viscostity is a way of printing multiple colours using relief and intaglio methods all from one plate and all in one go. Delightfully colourful and a very inky day.
If you are interested in receiving regular updates about courses at Double Elephant drop a note to firstname.lastname@example.org and I’ll put you on that email list too.
