Lynn Bailey - Printmaker
Welcome to Newsletter 13

Since my last Newsletter
sent out in January I’ve had a great time with Exeter Open Studios. This year the dates were moved to may so that it could coincide with Art Week Exeter (AWE) – the
inaugural launch of a city-wide arts festival. There was a good buzz going on across the city and although my visitor numbers weren’t huge, they were jolly good quality visitors. I think in future EOS will probably be absorbed into AWE. We’ll find out in due course... If you missed it, here’s some photos
In the spring I also started some new work looking as some rare bees. A few simple drypoints are currently available in my Etsy shop, but the project is on hold for the time being while I attempt to grow the appropriate plants to print with the bees. But I can’t just sit there and watch plants grow! So I have embarked on a batch of exuberant prints with Sparrows (see below).
In May I was asked to contribute to an exhibition as part of the MA Multi-Disciplinary Printmaking Symposium at the University of the West of England. Only later I saw it was titled Masters of the Print Universe. Now there’s a thought to conjure with!

Anyway – enough of the catch up – here’s what’s happening next!!

Here’s a quick list of what’s in this newsletter:-

1.       The Other Art Fair – Bristol 22nd – 24th July
2.       Big Colyton Art Fair 15 & 16th October
3.       Double Elephant in Plymouth

1. The Other Art Fair – Bristol 22nd – 24th July

This is the second time that I’m taking part in The Other Art Fair – Bristol.
The Arnolfini is a fabulous place to be. My stand is number 35 located in the Auditorium. Do come and say hello. Friday 22nd if the private view night, Saturday 23rd, open 10am-6pm, Sunday 24th, open 10am-5pm. You can get a complimentary ticket that admits 2 here, worth £12.
I’ve been working hard to create new work for this that will be revealed for the first time. If focusing my attentions on the humble sparrow. That dear little brown bird, so easily taken for granted, But have you noticed that in the UK, where once you could see lots of the in your childhood, they are now far fewer in number. I believe they might be fighting back, so please keep feeding your garden birds and look after those scruffy hedgerow habitats that they like. Here’s a sneaky video of work in progress – and just for you, here’s one of the 1st prints to be fully framed up and ready to go.

The guest artist at TOAF-Bristol this year is Ben Eine.
There is an Artful Postcard Project that I’m looking forward to taking part in, plus other activities and workshops.
I also have some of my artwork available in their online shop.

2. Big Colyton Art Fair 15 & 16th October

I have also been invited to take part in Big Colyton Art Fair at Colyton Grammar School in October. Always nice to be asked and looking at the line up for last year (their first year) it looks like I should be in good company.
Perhaps I will have some new Rare Bees work ready by then? I will try and keep you posted.

3.
Double Elephant in Plymouth

Meanwhile at Double Elephant, we have embarked on a project working in collaboration with a workshop in Plymouth. Read all about it here
So, not only do we have courses in Exeter, but we have also branched out to Plymouth. Not forgetting that the Outreach Team also get out and about round Devon and beyond.

Every now and then I also get out of the workshop to do a masterclass elsewhere. If you would like me personally to visit a workshop near you (or other suitable venue to either teach or demonstrate my own approach to printmaking – do get in touch!

P.S. Did you know – Double Elephant was nominated for an Exeter Living Award? Proud to be a runner up.....

Thanks             Lynn
