In This Edition:

I hope this finds you well.

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays from my family to yours!

Spending time with family and loved ones is the best part about the holiday season, and getting your COVID-19 booster shot if you are eligible will help ensure that you and your loved ones stay healthy into the new year.

Booster shots are available, through both appointments and drop-in availability, at many pharmacies, clinics, and mass vaccination locations throughout the County.

Everyone 16 and older who is six months out from their second Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, or two months out from their Johnson & Johnson vaccine, is eligible for a COVID-19 booster shot.

This is particularly urgent and critical for persons age 50 and older, and those with significant underlying health conditions.  To find a booster shot appointment or drop-in booster location, please go to

County health officials recommend that if you are traveling or gathering for the holidays:
  • Get tested immediately before travel, upon return, and again 3-5 days later.
  • Have everyone ages 5+ get their COVID vaccine.
  • Have everyone ages 16+ get their COVID booster.
  • Wear a mask indoors and in crowded settings. Wearing medical grade masks and adjusting masks so they fit tightly are important.
  • Keep group gatherings small in both size and duration. Gather only with close family units.
  • Outside gatherings are safer than indoor gatherings.
  • Be cautious around elderly or immunocompromised individuals and consider COVID-19 testing before such interactions.
Parents of very young children and those who have not been vaccinated should make sure to take all advised precautions. Avoid large gatherings. Always wear mask in indoor public settings and in crowded outdoor settings (unless under age 2).

COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, free, and widely available to everyone 5 and older.

More than 80% of eligible Santa Clara County residents, including children ages 5-11, have been fully vaccinated for COVID-19. We remain a national leader in vaccination rates.

However, there are still thousands of eligible Santa Clara County residents who have not gotten vaccinated.

All County Health System mass vaccination sites and all general community-based mobile sites are vaccinating anyone ages 5 and older. Children between 5 and 17-years old need to provide a signed consent form from a parent or legal guardian. For County-operated sites, the consent form is available here.
The most up-to-date information about how and where to get vaccinated can be found at

Many locations readily accept walk-in patients. Pfizer, Moderna, and Johnson & Johnson vaccines are all available within the County. Additionally, many doctor offices and pharmacies provide COVID-19 boosters.

Vaccinations through the County are no-cost to the public, insurance is not required, and there are no immigration requirements.

Residents without access to the internet can make vaccination appointments by phone for the County Health System sites through the Valley Connection Call Center at 408-970-2000 or by dialing 2-1-1.

The Call Center is open Monday through Friday from 7am to 9pm and Saturday and Sunday from 8am to 4:30pm.  Assistance is available in English, Spanish, Vietnamese, and multiple other languages.

You can also get vaccinated at pharmacies throughout the County, including many Walgreen's, CVS, and Costco locations.

Home for the Holidays
The County of Santa Clara Animal Services Center is hoping to provide a forever home for all pets this season through the Home for the Holidays promotion. From now through December 31, all animals that have been at the shelter over 1 week will have their adoption fee lowered to just $25 to reach the goal. The adoption fee covers spay/neuter surgery, microchip ID implantation and registration, age-appropriate vaccinations, de-fleaing and de-worming, and FIV/FeLV testing for cats.

See adoptable pets here.

The Cathedral Basilica of St. Joseph is presenting a free performance series every night through December 23. These multicultural musical events are for everyone to enjoy during the holiday season.
