Now is the time to voice support for arts, culture, and creativity. As many of you have heard, President Trump submitted his first budget request to Congress last week. The proposed budget would eliminate the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) in the 2018 fiscal year.
The NEA is a vital component of our arts ecosystem. Federal funding is matched by non-federal funding to support the work of organizations in all fifty states. In FY 2013-2015, the NEA awarded 884 grants to California arts organizations, including those in Santa Clara County.
The good news is that this proposed budget is just the first step in a long process of establishing a federal budget. There is still time to save the NEA. We encourage everyone to learn about the NEA and to take a few moments to voice support for our creative culture.
