News and prayer requests from Hope City Presbyterian Church.

I hope this prayer letter finds you with glad hearts, warmed up by the grace of our compassionate God. As I write this the hearts of our little community are increasingly being warmed by God's wondrous grace in Christ. We've had three formal meetings already this year and people have actually pitched up! I know, I'm as amazed as you are. God seems to be building here and we're delighted with the people he's bringing to us. Alongside our core team there have been new visitors each week. Every Sunday evening we arrive expectant to see who God might invite into our community - it really is exciting and humbling at the same time.

We've started off with an informal meeting every Sunday evening where we answer fundamental questions about the type of church we are trying to plant in Cape Town. This gives everyone a great opportunity to ask anything they'd like about church and at the same time allows me to envision our group for where I'd like us to go as a church. We've also been holding prayer suppers in our home on consecutive Wednesday evenings to soak this entire endeavour in prayer. We are hopeful and expectant of our great God to do great things in our city.

In just over a week's time we begin our first full-scale evangelistic event. For six weeks we've rented out a coffee bar in the city where I'll teach sessions based on Tim Keller's book, "The Reason for God". The aim is to look at common objections that people have to embracing the Christian faith as their own. We're hoping and praying that many people will come and openly and honestly engaged with the material.

All this to say that God has been very good to us and we continue to covet your prayers in this labour of love.

Prayer Requests

Please uphold the following things in prayer with us:
  • Continued growth both numerically and in terms of the depth of gospel understanding in our group.
  • The Reason for God course: Pray that many people will come and that we will create an open and honest environment where people can wrestle with their doubts.
  • Please pray for the growth of our core team as we grow in our understanding of what the church is and the mission of the church in the world.
  • I continue to covet your prayers for my own spiritual vitality as I, by God's grace, lead this project. Pray that God would keep me near him in the Word and in prayer. Pray that I will worship deeply so that I might lead others into his embrace.
