We have two opportunities for
you in 2012!

The course combines pre-conference reading and your time at the three-day VAEYC conference with seven weeks of online learning following the conference. The cost is $517.50 for three credits. (This is a 70% discount on Champlain tuition, provided for VAEYC conference attendees). Please note that $517.50 is in addition to the required costs of conference registration!  Click here to learn more or register for the course.

  2. Not looking for a full course?  Try one of our CONFERENCE PLUS WORKSHOPS! In response to your feedback indicating that you’d like to spend more time exploring conference topics in depth, this year VAEYC is piloting extended learning opportunities with three “Conference Plus” workshops. Participants who select Conference Plus workshops will attend the traditional conference workshop PLUS will participate in a second online workshop in November, with the opportunity for additional DPD hours. Participants must commit to both sessions, and a reliable Internet connection is essential. This year, there is NO ADDITIONAL CHARGE for Conference Plus workshops!  This year’s Conference Plus workshops:

Lisa Murphy
The "Ooey Gooey Lady"

Friday and Saturday
October 20th & 21st

Lisa Murphy is the Ooey Gooey Lady® and she will be one of the keynotes at our 2012 Fall Conference. Lisa shares her article Teaching Problem Solving to Young Children with us here.

We have all witnessed it… the children who, at the ripe old age of six, or maybe even four, can spell their names, count up to 100, recite their phone number, play a musical instrument, dance for grandma, and maybe can even write a few words, but! when on the playground with peers, and someone takes their shovel, bike, truck or jump-rope what happens? Conference Parking Returns to Sheraton

If you've attended the conference at the Davis Center in years past (2008, 2010) you already know that tight parking restrictions around UVM mean that we can't and don't park right at the Davis Center. In 2008, UVM arranged for us to park at the Sheraton Burlington, which is just off the highway and easily found. We ran shuttle busses between the Sheraton and the Davis Center and it worked pretty darn well! The weather during the week of the 2008 confernece was BEAUTIFUL and many of you even chose to walk between the two sites.

In 2010, UVM arranged our parking onsite at the UVM Gutterson garage. It was universally described as a disaster. For those of you who aren't regular visitors to Burlington, negotiating the "jug handle" intersection and even finding the garage proved difficult. It was hard to find shuttle busses. And the shuttle bus route (because of the jug handle) meant a long and loopy ride on the bus. It didn't go well... and we heard you loud and clear!

For the 2012 conference, parking for Thursday and Friday will be back at the Sheraton Burlington. If you're staying in town to attend more than one day of the conference, you might also consider staying at the Sheraton. Be sure to mention VAEYC to get the preferred room rate.

For Saturday attendees, parking is a little easier because the weekday parking restrictions at UVM are removed. We'll follow up with more detailed information before the conference, so keep an eye on your email for that information.

From the President

It continues to be an honor to serve as President of Vermont AEYC. One of my most rewarding experiences as a volunteer is the opportunity to serve an organization I believe in. It is an opportunity to give something back and make a difference. It is an opportunity to connect with other like minded people in a very meaningful way. It is an opportunity to keep current with what is happening in our field. A warm welcome and thank you to the following people who have most recently offered their time as volunteers in service to the VAEYC board or in service to Team VAEYC: Katie Gonyaw, Laura Murphy, Beth Peloquin, and Andrea Racek. Some of you reading this may be thinking that you don’t have as much experience, knowledge, connections, or (fill in the blank) as Katie, Laura, Beth, and Andrea and that you don’t have the ability to make a difference -- not true! All you really need is the willingness to serve, a passion for the organization, and some time to give. Perhaps you are waiting to be asked, or perhaps you feel shy about stepping forward. Send and email or make a call now: your organization, VAEYC, needs you! I promise it will be a rewarding experience, and sometimes it will even be fun!
