New Possibilities: Using Evidence Based Practices that Support Inclusion – May 1 and 2, 2014

New Possibilities is a two-day professional development institute designed to strengthen the daily practices of Early Intervention, Early Childhood and Early Childhood and Special Education professionals who provide services and supports to infants, toddlers, and young children of diverse abilities birth to age 8 and their families. Please see attached flyer, Institute Agenda, and Strand and Session Descriptions. The majority of presenters are leading experts in their fields.  This two-day sequence of professional development should be of interest for several reasons:
  • All sessions will be organized to align with the recently revised Division for Early Childhood (DEC) Recommended Practices.
  • All sessions will be orchestrated to reflect evidence-based practices for effective professional development. To this end, you will note on the agenda that sessions range in length from 2-day strands to 90-minute sessions.
  • Sessions and presenters have been carefully selected to offer content that has not previously been available.
  • Topics have been selected expressly to expand the expertise and repertoire of evidence-based practices used by individuals who work directly with infants, toddlers, young children and families.
Location: Hilton Burlington Hotel / 60 Battery Street / Burlington, VT 05401

An exhibition and presentation for Vermont’s Legislators, highlighting the importance of quality early care and education.
This event is sponsored by the Creative Minds Children’s Center, in partnership with the Vermont Early Childhood Alliance and the Building Bright Futures State Council.

On Thursday, February 20th from 1:30 to 5:00 pm, providers are invited to be part of an exhibition and presentation for Vermont’s Legislators, highlighting the importance of quality early care and education.   Providers are invited to display panels of “Excellence” in a gallery walk that will be up at the State House cafeteria beginning at 1:30. At 3:30 there will be a formal presentation, followed by a conversation with legislators about policy recommendations that can invest in successful programs and families.

There will be a conference call on February 4th, from 1:00 until 2:00 to discuss the event. If you would like to participate in the call, please RSVP to Bryanne Marquis at: bryannemarquis@gmail.com. Statewide Early Childhood Action Plan UPDATE
For more information, contact Kim Friedman, Action Plan Developer, at: kfriedman@svcable.net  or visit the Governor's Action Planning webpage.

Extensive input received during 2013 leading up to the Governor’s Early Childhood Summit and release of Vermont’s Early Childhood Framework last October resulted in the generation of many suggested strategies and actions to accomplish our goals—many more than can realistically fit into the Action Plan currently being developed to implement the Framework.  In order to identify the most appropriate strategies and actions, the Early Childhood Action Planning Committee and regional Building Bright Futures Councils co-hosted regional action planning meetings during December and January. The Action Planning Committee also offered conference calls and online survey as additional opportunities to provide input on the proposed strategies to include in the Early Childhood Action Plan.

Following the Action Planning Committee meeting on February 7th, there will be a short public comment period on the first draft of the Action Plan. Stay tuned for more details. The Action Planning Committee will meet again on February 21st to revise the draft, based on public comments received during the comment period. Building Bright Futures and the Action Planning Team will then assume responsibility for working with stakeholders across the state to finalize the Action Plan by June 30th.
