Today’s email is focusing on a political race that does not seem to be drawing any attention.
Actually, as I see it, it is the most important political race that we will see this year and could have consequences for the next 20 years.
The race I am referring to is the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
In over 100 years, we have not seen a situation like this before.
There are seven Pennsylvania Supreme Court seats – three of those seats are currently up for election.
Two Democrats and two Republicans currently hold four of the seven seats.
It is critical that the Republican candidates win all three seats.
If the Democrats take control of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court, I feel confident that we will not see any pension reform in the next 10-20 years and we will not see any property tax reform or relief in that same time period.
In addition, whichever party controls the Pennsylvania Supreme Court will have control and influence over redistricting of PA House and Senate districts.
It is important for voters to understand that whichever candidate wins a seat on the Supreme Court, the period that they will hold that seat is for 10 years - and at the end of the 10 years they will be up for retention which is a simple vote and gives that person an additional 10 years on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
If the House and Senate pass property tax and pension reform, and the Governor signs it into law, it will most likely be challenged and end up in the PA Supreme Court for a decision.
If there is a Democratic majority in the PA Supreme Court, you better believe they will reverse all reforms that the legislature passes.
I cannot express to you how important it is to elect Republican candidates to fill the three open seats.
In the event that the Democrats gain control of the Pennsylvania Supreme Court - my suggestion to you is this - sell everything you own in Pennsylvania and move to another state as fast as you can.
Illinois is a perfect example of the above scenario playing out.
The Governor of Illinois signed pension reform legislation in 2013 which was overturned this year by the Illinois Supreme Court.
We cannot afford to have a Democratic majority in the Pennsylvania Supreme Court.
The most troubling of the three Democrat candidates is Kevin Dougherty – the brother of Philadelphia IBEW 98 (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Union President John Dougherty.
John Dougherty has contributed a substantial amount of money to his brother's campaign and is willing to open the Philadelphia IBEW checkbook to make sure his brother wins a seat on the Supreme Court.
Folks – do you really think the brother of one of the most powerful union leaders in the country is going to protect any financial reforms?
I don’t think so.
Let me tell you about the three Republican candidates I am supporting and will be voting for.
Judge Ann Covey
Judge Mike George
Judge Judy Olson
Click on each of the candidate names to review their qualifications.
All three of these candidates are qualified leaders with high levels of integrity.
I ask that you join me in voting for Ann Covey, Mike George, and Judy Olson on Tuesday, November 3, 2015.
I have one huge request - please talk to your neighbors and friends about this important political race and also please forward this email to others.
