Language School Begins

At approximately 7:20 every morning, all six Caires walk the two blocks down the street to the Instituto de Lengua Española.  This is a language school specifically for missionaries and is a super encouraging environment.  We have chapel twice a week, Christian teachers, and so many new friends who help each other through this new cultural experience.

I, Allison, am having a great time hearing and practicing Spanish every day.  I believe I am happier to be in classes than anyone else in school, sometimes obnoxiously so.  Will and I go to two or three sessions of class each day-- grammar, language/ conversation, and phonetics.

Sarah goes to a couple of hours of English pre-kindergarten and a couple of hours of Spanish pre-kindergarten.  David, Annie, and Peter are attending Sojourn Academy, where they have some Costa Ricans (Ticos) in their classes and some fellow missionary kids.  Two days a week they have Spanish club after school and two days a week they practice organized soccer in the school gym.  Must try to play the latinoamerican sport!

As you can imagine, doing the normal things like going to the grocery store, making dinner, and doing homework take up the rest of the afternoon and are more time-consuming than they were in the States.  Plus, it is the rainy season, so it generally rains from about 2:30 to 9:00 p.m. intermittently.  We have been doing a little traveling on the weekends as well as visiting some of the many evangelical churches in the area (yes, in Spanish).  All of us have found things we are thankful for and enjoy and other things that are challenging, but all in all, it has been an exciting month of learning.  We have all the best things in Jesus-- here and in the life to come.  "Whoever finds their life will lose it and whoever loses their life for my sake will find it."  Matthew 10:39

Thank you! Our hearts are full of gratitude for all of you who are supporting us financially and in prayer. God has been faithful to us and has provided what we have needed over and over.  Upon arrival, we made a big budget change: we decided to send everyone to school instead of homeschooling the kids and Allison staying home.  Things are crazy expensive here in Costa Rica, too, but again, God had already blessed us through you to provide for our needs.   We are honored to be here, to be part of God's plan for Peru, and we are thrilled that you have joined us on our team.  Thank you again and again.
Prayer Requests:
  • Praise  for new friends here in Costa Rica
  • Stamina and retention in learning Spanish
  • Family unity
  • A church home
  • Joy in all circumstances
