This month is all about heart. For one thing, February is American Heart Month and, for another--well you already know this one. Valentine’s Day, of course! We have plenty of red and pink recipes you can make on February 14th, like red beans and rice and beet tsatziki. We’re also sharing some “hearty” recipes below that are perfect for winter weather. If you’re still looking for a great gift this month, check out our gift sets, below. And in case you didn’t catch it last month, we have some exciting news about our future issues that we think you’ll love.
Warmly (and with love),
This month we’re kicking off a new class.Take a look behind the scenes at the ChopChop Test Kitchen and help us test recipes for our Winter 2020 issue. All attendees will cook brand new dishes and help us make sure the recipes for our newest International Soups are tasty and easy to follow. Kids in grades 5-8, sign up to be an official recipe tester today!
Toddlers and grown ups, we have a class for you, too. Our Edible Alphabet classes are back. For one hour two times a week, you and your toddler will create simple snacks, build number literacy, experiment with new foods, and enhance fine motor skills while learning the alphabet. Whether you're a seasoned alum or a newbie to these classes, you'll fit right in, learn something new, and have a good time. One ticket includes an adult and toddler.
This soup is a ChopChop Headquarters classic, which we love to make all winter long. It’s “hearty”, so it’s perfect for Valentine’s Day (get it?!)... and for the cold February weather. This soup is also a great reason to try cooking your own dried beans from scratch! But canned beans are just fine too. Either way, it will warm you up.
We’ve made some changes and we think you’ll love them. ChopChop is getting even bigger and better! We’ve added 8 extra pages of content (at no extra cost), all of it designed to broaden and deepen the learning we offer our young readers. Food-themed book reviews, recipe math and finance activities, a how-they-make it focus on ingredients, and a column devoted to the healthy convenience of canned and frozen foods are just some of what you’ll find in our new pages—along with some extra puzzles and games, too, because fun is always a priority around here. ChopChop is even more inspirational and more aspirational than ever—for our hands-on chefs in training, certainly, but also for our armchair cooks who might be reading outside of the kitchen and learning a lot along the way. We’re excited to share this new content with you and your family this year.
Make this recipe this month and serve it to someone you love. A drink flavored with rice and cinnamon may sound unusual, but in Mexico it’s common, and very popular. It’s easy to make, and refreshing in both cool and warm weather.
