Career Best 7th At Donington For DanÂ
Dan Drayton raced into the top ten of the European Junior Cup at Donington Park with a career best 7th placed finish at the end of an intense 11 laps around the 2.5 mile East Midlands circuit on Sunday.
Starting from a career best qualifying position of 13th, Dan made a great start and was inside the top ten almost immediately.
Lapping almost a second faster than he did in qualifying he worked his way forward to claim 9 well deserved points after a truly memorable race that had the union jack flags positioned around the circuit waving and the fans at the paddock show raising the roof as he was invited onto the stage in the fanzone after the race.
With the added confidence gained from his home round success Drayton is raring to go in the remaining races, the next being in Italy at the seaside circuit of Misano in two weeks time.
Dan Drayton - 7th: "Donington is my home race and I arrived confident but left with a better result than I expected. I was hoping that we could get into the points but the whole weekend everything just fell into place. From Free Practice one on Friday we had a great feeling and I was able to push on and get closer to the front. The suspension allows me to get on the power earlier and I can put the bike where I want. Qualified 13th which is my best yet in Europe. Moved up to 9th from the start and ended 7th after fighting hard. Got my time down over 3 seconds from last year so hopefully we can carry this on in the championship as I'm 14th overall now and not too far away from the top ten. Massive thanks to my mum and dad and everyone who supports me and a big thanks to the fans I never had so many people cheering me and to hear them all on the stage when I was introduced was mega."
