Showcasing the beauty of the human spirit - in mid air - around the world

“Real fearlessness is the product of tenderness. It comes from letting the world tickle your heart, your raw and beautiful heart. You are willing to open up, without resistance or shyness, and face the world. You are willing to share your heart with others.” - Chogyam Trungpa

What an exciting week this has been! I launched the campaign to an explosion of beautiful support and media coverage... I was even in the news!

Check me out:

I would like to send a HUGE THANK YOU to my friend Emanuel Ramos who put the Kickstarter video together for me. He patiently smiled made dozens of takes while I pushed through my awkwardness and discomfort of speaking on camera. He did a great job!

AND - To Marc Telio (next weeks featured jumper) who kicked things off by making a very generous contribution - a big heart felt that you to you Marc!

If you know anyone may be inspired by my work, please forward them the KICKSTARTER campaign.

And now to our lovely featured jumper of the week:

From: I am originally from Montpellier in the South of France.
Lives: I currently live and work in Vancouver.
Work: I am the co-founder and President of the
STAND (Step Towards A New Direction) Foundation, a private foundation which helps marginalized youth in Greater Vancouver access education and skills training.

Q: What inspires you to jump for joy?
I was inspired to jump for joy by my friend, Chad MacRae from
Recruiting Social who invited me to jump along with his team. Recruiting Social is one of STAND’s valuable and dedicated corporate sponsors. It was a great honour to be invited to jump with Chad and his team to showcase the partnership that exists between Recruiting Social and STAND.

Q. Your experience doing jumping photos?
The jumping photo shoot was a lot of fun. It is liberating and energizing to jump. It gets your blood flowing, your heart bouncing, and it lifts up your spirit. I felt light and happy and was walking on a cloud for the rest of the day. Jumping with a great group of people whom I admire made the experience so much more meaningful and richer.

Q: What inspires you in life?
Passion and compassion inspire me. I admire anyone who has the passion and dedication to pursue their dreams, no matter how out of reach their dreams may seem. I am also inspired by compassionate people who go out of their way to help those who are disadvantaged.

Q: Your greatest passion?
I am passionate about my foundation, STAND, and the work we do to help youth achieve their educational potential. It’s a nice feeling to know that you are making a difference in someone’s life, and giving them an opportunity that they may not otherwise have.

Outside of my work, my greatest passions in life have been travelling around the world and dancing. I love discovering new cultures, customs and traditions, and exploring what our beautiful planet has to offer. From diving with sharks to seeing gorillas and lions in their natural habitats, hiking the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, or exploring the Galapagos, I continue to be amazed by the beauty of nature.

Dancing is another passion of mine. I have been dancing since I was very young and I will never stop.

Q: Your driving force?
My curiosity, thirst to learn and experience new things, as well as my sense of adventure have been my driving forces in life. They have brought me to Canada and taken me to various corners of the world. They have also led me to firmly believe that the only limits that exist are the ones that we put on ourselves.

Q: Philosophy?
Life is precious so let’s make every moment count.

Q: Anything in the world?
A: I would make sure every child and youth has the opportunity to get an education, no matter where they come from and what their circumstances are.

Creating the STAND Foundation was my way to help disadvantaged youth in Greater Vancouver break the cycle of poverty by accessing higher education. STAND offers financial assistance to those youth who come from poverty and have experienced tremendous personal challenges so that they can pursue post-secondary education and/or skills training. We have set up this unique grant program for students from alternative school programs who wouldn’t necessarily be able to compete for more traditional scholarships.

Q: What are you working on?
STAND was created in 2007 and as of today, we have helped 68 youth go to college/university/trades’ programs for a total of $194,000 awarded in grants. We are working to increase our sponsorship base and to raise awareness about the work we do.

There will be a million job openings over the next decade or so in BC. Labour projections show that BC doesn’t have the trained people to fill those jobs. In today’s economy where people and knowledge are BC’s most important assets, post-secondary education is the best investment we can make.

Q: Mini bio, interesting facts about you or something special you want to share.
A: I went on a trip through Rajasthan, India a few years ago. We stopped in a very small village which merely consisted of a few huts. We were invited to have tea with the chief of the village. Being the only woman in the group, I was invited to go inside the hut and watch the women make tea. Men were not allowed in, just me. They lived a very simple life in a modest hut. They had very little yet they were honoured to give us what they had and make tea for us. I couldn’t speak their language and we couldn’t communicate verbally; but the connection that we made was beyond words. It touched me to see how they lived, how little they had, and how generous they were.  To this day I think back about this moment.  It taught me a lot about humility and generosity.
