Showcasing the beauty of the human spirit - in mid air - around the world

“There is genius in persistence. It conquers all opposers. It gives confidence. It annihilates obstacles. Everybody believes in a determined man. People know that when he undertakes a thing, the battle is half won, for his rule is to accomplish whatever he sets out to do.” - Orison Swett Marden

DUNIA TOZY ...

Mini Bio:  Born in Baghdad, Iraq and immigrated to Canada with my parents & siblings in the late 1990’s and have been calling metro Vancouver my home ever since. Was in medical school back in Iraq but changed gears in Canada. Studied Biology at UBC and Broadcast Journalist at BCIT and have been working with Shaw TV for a little less than 7 years as a host, reporter, and video journalist.

My main focus is on the lifestyle show ‘go!’ which airs on Shaw TV telling stories about art, entertainment, culture, people and places and I couldn’t think of a better thing to do than meeting the inspiring people we feature everyday. I am also the owner of Love 2 Media, a photography & cinematography small business which I operate and run with my husband. I’m also the mommy of a wonderful 3 year old girl.

Q: What makes you jump for joy?
A: So many things make me happy and make me want to jump for joy it’s hard to describe in a few sentences haha. From seeing a good movie, singing, dancing, watching the stars and listening to a new great song, to the BC lions winning the grey cup (lol), photography, cinematography, watching any episode of the TV show ‘Friends’, crafting, traveling, and learning a new language. All these things make me want to jump for joy (I know, too many, eh?).

Seeing people happy, satisfied and joyful makes me so so happy. Most of all though, being blessed to live in a great peaceful country like Canada where I can achieve anything I want to achieve if I put my mind to it also makes me so thankful for everything I have. I’m also thankful to my parents who sacrificed so much by moving us from war torn Baghdad, Iraq to this amazing land of opportunity to make our lives better. Finally my husband and little girl never seize to bring me joy and amazement.

Q. Your experience doing jumping photos?
A:
I’ve had the pleasure of filming a few of Eyoalha’s jumping shoots, and I’ve seen people enjoying it but experiencing it myself was even more incredible and fun, haha! She is not only talented but also knows how to produce amazing jumping shots. We arranged the shoot on my daughter’s 3rd birthday and went to Spanish Banks (my husband and my favourite spot in the lower mainland).

We had some balloons to keep my little one occupied and I have to admit, I was a tiny bit worried (toddlers rarely do what we want them to do when we want them to do it, haha), but little E. really took to Eyoalha and she followed all of her instructions perfectly. We splashed around in mud and water, jumping and laughing and it was the perfect birthday present for all of us.

Q: What inspires you in life?
A:
People inspire me first and foremost. I get inspired by others’ achievements and successes. I get inspired by positive optimistic people, and who have a never-ending fervor for life and a desire to make others’ lives better, and those who are innovative and creative. I try to follow and learn from those people.

I also get inspired by good photographs, video clips and magazines like the National Geographic I get inspired by my parents who worked so hard to get us to Canada from Baghdad, Iraq and who constantly strive to make our lives better. I get inspired by my siblings whom I can’t live without and I always admire, and finally by my amazing husband who has stood beside me for so long to make my dreams come true, and of course by my little girl who makes me laugh every second of the day.

Q: Your greatest passion?
A: I am passionate about life and what it has to offer and I want to get the most of it while I can. I'm passionate about making people’s life better, but my family is my greatest love and passion.

Q: Driving Force?
A:
I am a very ambitious person and I enjoy trying new things and learning new things and I think that’s what drives me in life. I thrive on challenges and I enjoy setting goals and trying to achieve them. I wish there is 48 hours in a day to be able to do everything I want to do (having a double wouldn’t hurt either lol). Also, seeing people happy, especially my family and friends is another important.

Q. Philosophy?
A: Never give up and you if there is a will there is a way. Also, “Be the change you want to see in the world” – Gandhi

Q: Working on?
A:
I have several projects on the go from some amazing stories that will air on go! In the fall, to several video and photo projects that I’m working on with some clients. You can see my go! stories on youtube here:
 www.youtube.com/user/goVancouverOnShawTV/

Q: Anything in the world?
A:
I would love to travel to every single country in the world with my family, because it’s one of my ultimate favourite things to do in life. Learning new languages, learning about other cultures and documenting all of that through photography and cinematography would be a dream! I’m working on achieving that one step at a time.

Another thing I would love to do is to learn playing piano the proper way, I play by ear by it would be amazing to learn to read sheet music.
