November ‘the long dark month’ is nearly over and the ‘celebration month’ for many is nearly here. Yes Christmas is fast approaching. I hope if you are celebrating your preparations are well under way… or at least you may have started thinking about them?
It has been an interesting November. Link4Growth continues to evolve as we adapt to the ebb and flow of our community. One of our missions is to share all the great news that is happening in our communities. There are some amazing Christmas fayres and events happening during December and we have been adding them to our Community Calendar
. At the moment these are all centrally located (for December only) for ease… so please have a look and see what is happening.
All of us would surely benefit from knowing more about what is happening in our local community. That is equally true if applied to knowing more of our neighbours or those living locally to us. Some of us remember fondly the days when neighbours all knew each other and looked out for one another. Those were the days are I often hear people say, but why can’t we bring them back? What’s stopping us really?
If you would like to help develop a stronger local community or if you are in touch with what is happening locally then we would love to hear from you. Just enabling people to find out about everything going on around them would be a great start. If you could send us information about events or local groups by email or via facebook that would be really helpful. If you think you might be able to help email us on southwesthertsDL@link4growth.biz
or complete the contact us form
on the community hub website. If you recognise your area in this list then we need you. Watford, Rickmansworth, Croxley Green, Bushey, Oxhey, Northwood, Harefield, Abbots Langley, Kings Langley, Garston, Leavesden, Carpenders Park, Chorleywood.
Reverse Advent Calendar.
Helping others without expecting anything in return is uppermost in many people’s minds at this time of the year. The Reverse Advent Calendar
is a great idea! Just put a piece of food (non perishable) aside for each day in December. Put the items into a ‘bag for life’ labelled with for whom it is most suitable for (a woman, a man or a small family maybe) and take it along to the local foodbank
. Please also consider socks, deodorants, female hygiene products and chocolate. Although not on the food bank's priority list I am sure the recipients are grateful when they receive these items too. If you can arrange this at work or in a cafe as a group effort It would be amazing. Contact us
for further details. [I will get a picture sorted for this, speaking to Catherine now]
Link4Growth events continue until the 16th December and start again on the 4th January 2017. There are still lots of opportunities to ‘network’ and ‘build community’ at any of our totally inclusive local events listed below. Please do come along, you never know what door that chance meeting might open up…
That just leaves us both to wish you a very merry Christmas or happy holidays, whatever you may be celebrating! Have a great time, wrap up warm, stay safe and perhaps make a plan to get to know at least one new local neighbour this December!
